Default SIM used for new messages

I have two SIMs, a physical (SIM #1) and an eSIM (SIM #2), the latter being my primary that I always want to use, unless I specifically choose the other one. Even though I have selected the eSIM (i.e. SIM #2) as my default for making calls and sending messages, a message to a new contact (that I haven’t corresponded with) defaults to the physical SIM (#1).

I don’t know if this is specific to the e/OS/ version I’m running (3.1) or my phone (FP6), but any help would be appreciated.

while there’s a few dual-sim or eSim issues in the backlog, nothing yet describing this, so probably worth to catalog it.

To clarify, you can still choose to use the eSim(#2) when sending the message, the system didn’t just stop to detect the eSim?

Yes, I can absolutely choose to send from the eSIM (#2), it just defaults to the physical SIM (#1), despite having chosen the eSIM as my “primary SIM” for texts (in Network & internet > SIMs > Your primary SIMs > Texts). This, to me, is counter-intuitive.

so implicitly: Messages (a qksms fork) will respect and continue to use the SIM you used for a conversation that already started with a contact?

Looks to be this:

Correct. Thanks for digging out that (old) issue. Is the Messages app actively maintained as a separate fork? qksms hasn’t been updated in four years.

Alternatively, I wonder if there’s another SMS app I could use instead. Suggestions welcome. Otherwise, I might look into swapping my SIMs…

btw, need your help too  - I have a code fix open for the qksms fork for a year now. Can you tell me if in the bright theme the sim number still isn’t visible ?
How to spot: 2nd screenshot, mini sim icon above the message box with no number to its right (as the number itself is white).

QUIK SMS

I’ve been using it for a while now, and it works well. I don’t know if your default SIM issue is fixed, as I don’t have a dual-SIM device
