I would love this. The simple idea It feels like a dream come true and a game changer. The only reason I want to try Ubuntu Touch is to make my phone a laptop to run the best with E/OS.
I was able to use my FP4 with eOS on a TV with a dock charging station provided with USB and HDMI ports where I connected also a mouse and a keyboard. I found some useful instruction on the FP forum.

100% yes. This was the main reason why I switched to a DP alt phone. I normally use a 15 year old laptop which is starting to be so slow for just streaming and I want to replace it with my phone and docking station for traveling. Imo modern phones are Mord than capable enough to do that and this is the only smartphone feature I am actually excited for.
Thanks Manoj for checking the community on this desktop mode. I find it a little bit confusing what Desktop top mode is. Is it the option to plugin screen, mouse and keyboard? Then I would say I join the stories not to give this too many dev hours, because there are solutions already, like x-space or the other alternatives that are mentioned, should be great if there is an option to cooperate with one of them, to present a good integrated solution fitting Murena’s principles. Thats a win win. Not spending too much devops on this and delivering good functionality for those who needs.
Desktop mode like a real good version of EOS as OS on laptops/pc s, is very important to get rit of chromeOS, windows, and to make sure there is a really good alternative. But for existing chromebooks it should be great if there is a good working virtual box knowing that I don’t have to worry about data and google anymore and not to do too difficult things with firmware, flashing, booting, etc. Thats for techies.
Probably it sounds logical what desktop mode is, but for normal users it isn’t.
A phone will stay a lightweight option and won’t replace laptops, but for mobile working it is an option, and best experience I had is by using cables and no wifi, bluetooth.
I think for people who just does some internet browsing, send mails and type some letters (like my mum), this feature is perfect : no need to have an additional computer. only one device does everything reduce the impact on our environment.
Yes, you can connect screen, mouse, and keyboard to your phone.
Personally I use a program called scrcpy which uses adb to display my phone on a computer monitor and use the mouse/keyboard. It works great as I can do things much faster and I get a much bigger display, though it’s a mirrored terminal that uses the same aspect ratio as the phone’s display.
The big advantage with Desktop Mode is you get a display with the same aspect ratio as the monitor, not the phone’s aspect. And of course you don’t need a PC. However Desktop Mode is still a bit rough around the edges. It gets better with every new version of Android, but it can have problems with window aspect and window management. Some apps don’t play nice with it, some do.

Many people no longer have a desktop PC and only use a smartphone. Combining the advantages of a smartphone and a PC in a single machine is an idea for the future. At the very least, you should be able to use an office suite of the same quality as on a PC on a smartphone by taking advantage of a large screen and a keyboard. Think that Nintendo had this great idea a long time ago with the SWITCH!
