Hi. Good news I have now my phone in the Moto android 9 setup, and 4G+ connected. I didn’t realize I could get into that stage with just reloading this firmware package, I thought it wouldn’t contain all Android 9 stuff. Anyway very good news. My fastboot problems where due to a “damned” USB issue. It seems the device cannot manage the data flow in fastboot mode. Some commands worked randomly others are not recognized. So I tried an older PC limited to USB2.0 and all worked fine.
USB seems better managed in recovery mode with adb.
cool! I was thinking of USB cable for a moment too (but I never understood technically why it can matter: if the 2 middle contacts in the cable male work at all, why not fully? anyway).
My expectation is if you cycle now through current Lineage, 4G data works too, then /e/ will do so too.
I also read people talking about USB cable. Of course a bad cable can be an issue. My cable is pretty new and short and works very well at high speed with adb. So I believe there is a poor implementation of USB in the fastboot mode.
By the way I installed the RETAIL package but when looking system parameters on the device it says: Software channel RETEU.
Let’s keep the next step for tomorrow. Thanks very much for your wise support.
Hi,
The version of fastboot is 36.0.0-13206524. What happened is exactly what is explained in the lineage doc. Fastboot is erratic or hangs. So I used my old PC which doesn’t support USB 3.0 and everything was fine.
Since this morning, my Moto G6 Plus runs android 15 with lineage-22.2-20250615-nightly-evert-signed.zip. Mobile data are up and running, I didn’t have to modify the 2 APN. Everything else looks well. The only concern was the DNS setting. With private DNS some destinations are not resolved or it is erratic. I had to switch-off the private DNS feature. I am also impressed by the level of quality of the lineage graphical interfaces, even the recovery image looks more modern. Unfortunately the fastboot version remains the same.
So I think I will keep this version until e/ announces the first android 15 release and continue to use my old PC for the next update.
Many thanks for your support.
Thanks to tcecyk I have got an alternative with LineageOS (on Android 15). I will move to e/ as soon as Android 15 is available. The experience was interesting, I am now familiar with fastboot and adb and got some knowledge about android internals.
what’s your estimate in what the stockrom flash critically changed? - supposedly the baseband versions were the same. My guess was on some oem settings / prior lock-in if the firmware weren’t updated.
You can mold Lineage to what you need, there’s also L4M if microG is a requirement (Lineage made it easier since 18.1 to run microG as user app too).
Most of the /e/ appeal is letting it decide on defaults and rename Apps to what they do.
You may be right with the firmware.
I didn’t realize how e/ is integrating all these Lineage projects. I just read through again this page https://doc.e.foundation/what-s-e#degoogling–ungoogling. In my case, I will wait for the following android 15, which shall be a V community.
