According to it, there is a difference between Fairphone bought on Murena and a Fairphone with /e/os community manually installed on it: on the first it should be possible to use the official Fairphone Camera app, for better photo quality. But on the second this option should not be available.
The thread also specifies a /e/os build for Fairphone as a ‘community’ build, and another one as an ‘official build’. With this one, the FP camera app should be available.
It is specified that /e/os officially support Fairphones with the web installer.
My question is the following: if I buy a Fairphone with android through Fairphone official website, and then install /e/os on it with web installer, will I be able to get the official Fairphone camera app through the settings?
I’m not bothered by the higher price of the Fairphone with Murena. I prefer to buy it directly to Fairphone because I want to be sure to get support to reinstall android on it if /e/os does not fulfills my needs. And if I am satisfied, I will seriously consider do make a donation to Murena to support /e/os.
But the official camera app is a must have for me.
Your question was answered, so just to add some references …
The difference is not between getting it from Murena and installing it yourself, the difference is in the build types, https://doc.e.foundation/build-status has more info on those.
The official build type for the Fairphone 5 has the Fairphone camera App, and the official build type is being offered for manual install even without the web installer, see the Command line option here … https://doc.e.foundation/devices/FP5/official
Since the Fairphone camera app is not yet available for Fairphone 6, do we know if /e/, Murena and Fairphone are working together on it and when it could be available?
