Difficulty writing messages correctly

Hi,

I’ve been using an FP5 (/e/OS 3.7.1-a15 official) for six months now. I’m very happy with this Google-free smartphone, but I haven’t quite got the hang of it yet.

Here’s the problem I can’t seem to solve: If I want to write a message, I have to go through my contacts list to choose the recipient. I can’t type the recipient’s name directly into ‘Messages’. When I enter a name or number, it isn’t recognised. I have the same problem when I want to forward a message; I have to copy it and then paste it into another message.

Is there a solution that I’m not aware of… much to my shame! Thank you for reading

I cannot reproduce. Try

Settings > Search: Contacts; looking for

Contacts
Permission manager.

Is Message allowed here?

I’ve checked the settings for messages and contacts, and it looks like all permissions are granted. I’ve attached the two screenshots.

I can reproduce your screenshots … I have the same but you are not looking in Permission manager
