Do any Samsung phones on the /e/ approved list have either of these 2 features working?
No. VoLTE requires samsung proprietary blobs and software maybe in time if OSS becomes more widespread but I wouldn’t believe so

New user to e/os on the Australian Telstra network.
I flashed two phones samsung s8+ and samsung s20+ with e/os.
Both can txt and have mobile data but no voice call function (receive or transmit).
APN checked, changed etc, do not disturb, aero plane mode all checked. When the s20+ is reverted back to stock firmware 100% working.
Lot of reading and searching has lead to me thinking it may be VoLTE issue, and a has lead me to this post. So recent shutdown of 3G network basically means a lot of custom roms not supporting volte firmware are rendered unusable for voice calls (or limited) ? Australia 5G coverage is pathetic. The more I learn about the wireless telco world the more I see it is a confessing mess.
Would a data only sim and voip be future proof for privacy function phones or are data only sims funneling in the same mess of bandwidths etc.
It’s not that custom ROMs don’t support (i.e. include) IMS/VoLTE in their builds. It’s that Samsung doesn’t make their proprietary IMS/VoLTE available outside of stock Android.
That has led to a lot of frustration for custom ROM users as they suddenly discover this effect related to 2G/3G shutdowns, as you can read about by searching for “Samsung VoLTE” here in the forums, or on the internet in general.
Unaffected by Voice-over-LTE requirements.

So if i I ditch Samsung totally and purchase something like the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, I will have functioning e/os carrier calls. That is an easy fix and solution for me.
I personally don’t know anything about devices from the PRC, but I think I’ve seen some threads here about issues with Xiaomis. You’ll just have to search the forums.
As always, there will be a couple of factors at play:
- Is there a custom build, either official or unofficial, for the exact model/variant of the device?
- Does that exact model/variant have VoLTE certification with a carrier in your area?
[Note that I’m neither an expert on custom ROMs, nor telephony, but I have done a good bit of reading on VoLTE.]
@Taurus is well read on the subject and this second point is also catching people out as maybe this VoLTE certification is named differently by different carriers and countries. A significant part is IMS registration, many install pages now recommend to ensure ISM registration works on stock ROM before flashing /e/OS.
I recommend you talk to Telstra about it. They may seem mainly to want to just sell you a will_work phone … perhaps be prepared for a sales pitch and take notes.
