Do I need to activate a new phone before e/os?

Pretty much says it all. I have a new 2024 moto coming next week and it is on the e/os ROM-list.

Do I need to activate the phone for google (screw’em) or can I just turn it on with the vol-dn+power and start the e/os loading process with ADB and Linux PC.

Not new to ROMs (early cyanogenmod) yes, I am that old. But, I am new to 2024 phones and google’s need to encroach on all boundaries possible.

(what moto exactly?) - anyway, you’d have to oem unlock at Unlocking the Bootloader | Motorola Support US first, not fumble at bringing the code in one line, that you’re free to go. Newer phones need attention for the patch level date if you want to relock

Thanks, I understand about the Moto-unlocking stage and the last phone I installed e/os on was a 2010 moto and it is still in use today with Android 10.

I have no idea what that all means. Can you please elaborate on the process or at least point me at some links that might explain it in some detail.

the moto help page has it all in detail, it’s good. I was just quoting a recent example what can go wrong when bringing the multiline code into one line - doesn’t apply to you
