/e/os installer for Fairphone (Gen 6)

Hello! When will the e/os installer for Fairphone (Gen 6) will be available? It seems it’s not yet available on the platform.

Once there’s a build, the rest will follow somewhen.

But there is a build done for it. There are FP6 being sold both on Fairphone or Murena pages with /e/os preinstalled already.

Yes, internally they can install it already, but it needs to be released into the public documentation/download infrastructure starting here … https://doc.e.foundation/devices … where there is no FP6 yet.
Once there is, you as well as the /e/OS installer will have a build to download.
Which will also be referenced in manual install instructions. And if you read up a bit about the /e/OS installer in this forum, you really want to have the manual install as a fallback option in case the /e/OS installer fails. It would be dangerous to have the /e/OS installer compatible already but no manual install.

On Smartphone Selector
it says that the installer is ready for FairPhone 6:

but I get

Hello,
I also am blocked with a message saying that the Fairphone 6 is not compatible withe the easy installer.
I tried to change the USB port but it doesn’t change anything…

I’m also interested in installing /e/OS on FP6. But it seems they’ve removed this installation method. Maybe there have been issues with it?

The case is more like … the “new” Web Installer has not yet been adapted to this new device.

The “CLI install method” install script should work fine.

This is only the case when opening the website with a non chromium browser. If you open it with a chromium browser (chrome, edge, or even ungoogled chromium) you will be able to see the web installer. It will find your fp6 but web installation is not available for fp6 yet. Manual install via command line (adb/fastboot) works well. Even official builds work on fp6 bought outside murena.

My fp6 is from my provider with Google Android default on it but I could just install the murena version and even lock the bootloader so you don’t get the “This phone has loaded a different OS” warning. It just shows the Murena logo and continues boot.

Yes, I know. Initially, I wanted to use the Web Installer for convinience. But now I tried the CLI method and it worked without any problems. The only thing was that the script did not wait for input at the last step. Instead the device rebooted. But I was able to lock the bootloader afterwards.

Install /e/OS on a Fairphone The Fairphone (Gen. 6) - “FP6”

Is this an answer to my post? Of course I read the instructions. All I said is that there was a little difference. The document states:

The script will flash all required files and will wait for input at the last step. Proceed to locking the bootloader.

But it does not wait for input at the last step. It does reboot the device and I had to go into fastboot mode again. It was no problem, but yet a difference.

I can confirm this, same thing happened, same fix.

Is there any information on why did they took down the easy installer? Any maybe when will it be back again?

I was considering to install it manually but hearing of how many bricked already their phones, I am very concerned - so thought waiting to go the safe (hopefully) and easy way first.

Not really … but a check of easy-installer reports here in the forum and on Gitlab shows that it was hard to maintain over many devices and many different user conditions.

Web Installer offers a fresh start.

While an “installer” automates install for users familiar with Custom ROMs it may leave new users feeling dissatisfied … personal opinion … especially if they find a Help button which goes 404.
