/e/OS Update - Download process interrupts more than 50 times, until reaching 100% of the updatematerial

Hey there,

when I am updating to the newer /e/-OS release, the update process is stucking many times so I have to restart it again 50 to 100 times for reaching 100% of the download. The behavior is not only with downloading and updating to e 2.5, but also with upgrading older versions I had this problem. My current system is 2.4.1 on fairphone 4.

While updating I use my home wifi connection with 13MBits/s.

Can you help me?

Nice regards,
Almalexia

Something you might want to try next time:

Make sure to keep the display active through the whole process. You can either change the display timer to a longer time span in the Settings (make sure to reverse this afterwards!) or use the “Caffeine” function in the quick settings (you will need to edit your quick settings to use it) – the latter has the advantage that it only keeps your display active for a chosen time once and you do not need to reverse it later.

Okay, I will test now, if it works, thank you for the tip! So there is no possibility to download it with a turned off screen?
As I see, sometimes it downloads more than 2% although with screen turned off.

Just give it a try, it won’t do any damage. I cannot guarantee that this is the cause of your problem.

At your download rate, the download should not take very long, so you should see very soon if it helps.

Rightnow stopped, although screen on - but I did other things meanwhile. Is this a problem, when the updating is not in foreground?

Now it stopped, although display was on and the update-window active.

The same right now…

So, this does not seem as the solution…

Right now another time it stopped, but produced the announcement “Download failed. Please check your internet connection.”
But my Internet connection is working, or at least i am researching meanwhile a lot other things with my labtop in the internet.

Well, I have no other idea how to fix your Wi-Fi download problem.

If nothing else helps, you could download your update from /e/OS official FP4 download or /e/OS community FP4 download (make sure you know :exclamation: if you need “official” or “community”) on another device (e.g. computer). Then you can transfer (e.g. via USB cable) the download to your FP4, start the Updater (Settings > Updater) and tap at the three dots in the top right corner and choose this .zip file via “Local update” (the first option).

Anyone else reading here, please let us know if my suggestion is wrong.

Okay.

But the workaround you mention sounds good for me - less work than the other option! Thank you!

Okay, thank you both!!!

I mark it as solved, but it would be realy nice if the updater would continue updating countinously and not stop all the time. But maybe that is a coding issue of the updater.

In all cases thank you much piero and urs-lesse for your tipps!!!
