/e/ os web installer Timerout error message on Pixel 7

Hello,

just tried to install /e/ OS on my Pixel 7.

But on the Phone there is the following error message:
ERROR: recovery: Timeout waiting from minadbd

The installation goes for minimum up an hour now.

Anything I can do here?

I have seen that error arise in the following situation:

  1. The e-Recovery is uploaded successfully to the device
  2. The user is asked to boot into the e-Recovery
  3. The user does not recognise that they actually booted into the old standard Android recovery …
  4. /e/OS Installer is given a “click” to move on …
  5. But of course no e-Recovery is available for the job.

Please check out another eosinstaller similar thread for an image [1] … did you see e-Recovery?

A different device but the above issue is explained Your first boot into Custom rcovery

[1] e-Recovery looks like this

I am in the e-Recovery (I see this screen, the e-Recovery above).
But what can I do now? Just plug out the Usb cable and start again?

The expected screen should now tell you to

Apply update
Apply by adb
… then the final ROM flash is done by sideload.

If you do not have that screen the installer should be capable to start again from the beginning.

Your phone will boot to fastboot without problem, but it will not be able to boot to system.

I already had this screen. The error occurs during the Rom flash process. Last message before the Error:
No send the package, you want to apply to the device with “adb sideload ”, and I only have the option Cancel (or go back).

That is what is expected … Can you tell if the Installer attempts to “send the package” ?

It sounds like you are saying the installer sends the main ROM .zip …

Then the PC shows this:

Is that correct?

Do you know the Android version you started with and the Android version you intend to install? Has the installer advised you of version issues?

Edit: Regarding Android version

The command line manual install page is Install /e/OS on a Google Pixel 7 - “panther”.

The install page is written for the community build. (See Different Build Types). The community build is on Android 14 (U). Here we are advised

Before following these instructions please ensure that the device is on the latest Android 14 firmware.

The installer will install official build, but this is on Android 13 (T).

/e/OS should never be used to attempt to downgrade Android version.

So if you presented the device in Factory Android 14, I believe the installer will have a problem.

Sorry always have to wait several minutes until I can send my answer.

The Web installer showed that it is doing something, I do not know what he is doing.
The Android version should be the latest for the Pixel 7 I updated before I startet the Web installer.
I don’t know which Version of Android should be installed, the web installer shows no message about that, I thought it is the latests /e/ OS version?
There were no version issues advised.

I stopped the process, unplugged the Phone. Any possibilities to restart the installation? Of course the Phone does not start anymore, Recovery mode is possible, at the moment I startet the Rescue moment, but just see the graphic.

I advise best to stay away from the Rescue mode. (Edit Unless you study elsewhere carefully how to use it to help return to a factory ROM.) I believe your phone is ok but it is scary when it will not boot correctly.

No problem for us but I am afraid that the forum software is very annoying in this respect for new users. After a certain number of posts a new user may even be closed down for 8 - 12 hours. If you want to preserve your “today posts” you could try to edit your last post in order to acknowledge; then perhaps take a bit of time …

I would have guessed the same, until I read the install page.

I would suggest that following the manual install page will be easier than debugging the installer. As far as I know the installer has no log which you could share with me so we might be proceeding on guesswork.

panther has available manufacturer Android versions 13, 14 and 15. If you were on 15 you would have to downgrade before proceeding. If on 14 this would preclude use of /e/OS Installer.

Difficulty level 7/10

I will just link a page (not really easy stuff) but should you want to change / verify / downgrade Android version this would be the way to go Werksabbilder fĂĽr Nexus- und Pixel-Geräte  |  Google Play services  |  Google for Developers. You could probably use Android Flash Tool.
