Easy Install on Galaxy S8 fails, likely due to faulty redirects

Hi, I am trying to use easy-installer on LInux to liberate a Samsung Galaxy S8. It fails.

I can see this message on the terminal:
… e.easy.installer.utils.ConfigParser - → url: https://images.ecloud.global/stable/dreamlte/e-latest-r-dreamlte.zip.sha256sum

Trying that with curl:

curl -v … same URL as above…

< HTTP/2 302

< location: /stable/dreamlte/e-2.2-r-20240715417776-stable-dreamlte.zip.sha256sum

The server is configured to redirect the latest to version 2.2. So far so good.

However, looking at /e/OS stable dreamlte download, I can see that only versions e-2.7-s-20250109460371 and e-2.6.3-s-20241217455357 are supported.

Can somebody fix the redirects to point to valid files.

Hi @kesten welcome to the /e/ forum.

Easy Installer is being replaced by Web Installer (web-installer ). Imho it is unlikely that these redirects will be fixed for easy-installer.

Right now, you might experiment with

where Galaxy S8 shows as

Samsung Galaxy S8 dreamlte tested

Nice of you to suggest Open Android Installer, [Aibd]. This program needs a lot more attention on the custom ROM forums. Hope it works for [kesten]!

I actually ended up following the official process as described here: Install /e/OS on a Samsung Galaxy S8 - “dreamlte”

It isn’t perfect - one step says “A blue transfer bar will appear on the device showing the recovery being transferred” and the next one says “With the device powered off,…”, when the device is in a state where pressing the power button does nothing.

Nevertheless I ended up with a working e/OS on the phone.

Sorry for not trying Open Android Installer. I just didn’t want to risk another failure after one “easy” installer failed on me.

Aha, so you have been introduced to Heimdall. I am happy for you that the installation was successful. Just like the Easy Installer, Open Android Installer guides you through the process, but I can understand you wanted to use the official guidelines. Anyway, for other custom ROM’s like /e/OS I can recommend Open Android Installer. Besides installing the OS, you can choose to install Google Apps (if you really wanted to) or MicroG, which mimicks the Google functionality. /e/OS has the latter preinstalled. Congrats!
