Encryption inactive?

When I boot the system in recovery mode, I am used to having to enter the pin code to decrypt the system.
Why is this not “necessary” with /e/?
The system is completely open when accessed via TWRP!

Regain your privacy! Adopt /e/ the unGoogled mobile OS and online servicesphone

The “system” isn’t encrypted. Only the data partition (aka userdata) is, if anything.

The /e/ recovery doesn’t prompt for a decryption password because the /e/ recovery doesn’t need to decrypt the data partition, as the only thing it is able to do with the data partition as of now is wiping/formatting it as part of the “factory reset”.

O.K.
Thanks for the explanation.
