does anybody know whether it is possible to export a whole discussion thread of this forum here ot pdf or print it?
Sometimes I would like to archive some discussion (especially HowTo’s) to have all documetantion at one place on my local computer (I’m no friend of relying on the cloud where platforms may be shut-down from one day to the next).
I tried to print it from inside the browser, but that prints only the currently visited posting.
I tried the Firefox add-on PrintFriendly also with no success.
A browser allows often to print into PDF. You need a special driver for that which doesn’t print to paper but to a PDF file. On Windows Firefox has typically two entries in the printer selection: “Save to PDF file” and “Microsoft Print to PDF”.
A problem is that parts of a thread may not have been loaded completely. That’s why it’s not easy to get the entire output into the PDF file. You must indeed first get all the contents manually before you try printing and then check the contents in the printer preview.
The problem is that only a small part of the discussion (usually just one post) is exported/printed and not the whole discussion as desired. Even if I scroll through the whole thread to ensure that all postings are loaded the export will consist of one posting only.
That’s the reason for my question.
I already found it before but did not understand ad-hoc how it works - as geeks often think that giving clear and understandable explanations is just something for noobs
Unfortunately the result is not as expected: I tried to export a thread with 68 postings but only approximately 20 of the postings are exported. Also the formatting is not the best, but more or less usable.
The thread is complete and no postings are missing.
But also with the /print the formatting is not optimal but usable - and it works for me if I combine it with the Firefox add-on PrientFriendly where I can edit the exported page a bit before pdf creation.
