Fairphone 6 and USB

Hi,

I have got a brand new FP6 with e/os/ 3.4-a15-2026011456178

I want to plug on w11 pc using USB.. Nothing happen

I use search in parameter with key word ‘USB’ I select USB controlled.

This device is selected and all other options are disabled.

When I use my old FP3 everything is fine and I can transfert files PC to FP3

How can I transfert file using USB?

Hi Laurent,

I had also difficulties on connecting my Fairphone 6 with win 11 (I was not on/e/os at this time) until I install the optional software linked to adb on windows update. Normally, it’s only needed for development but…

When you connect your phone and refresh windows update, does it purpose optional updates ?

Thanks for your reply.

I used this link https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/9425348234513-How-to-connect-to-a-computer-with-a-cable to load adb driver

I reboot windows and phone but unfortunately it does not work.

How can I check usb fairphone?

With my linux notebook same problem.

I‘ve just tried : it works for me. (e-os 3.4).

My settings for usb on /e/os are : controlled by thies device (the phone) and File transfer.
Is it the same for you ? Otherwise, it may be your usb cable…

Sorry my daughter ask to chatgpt.

Go to system build and tap 7 times. now phone is in debug mode.

go back default usb config in dev option and press file transfert.

Now it’s OK but is it default config to disable file transfert using USB? if yes it’s a trap

Thanks you for your help.

(In my fp3 I used to debug my phone with android studio.)

of course it must be :
usual practice is to enable file transfert or thetering from the thiny notification that appear when you plug the device

No, it’s security.
Since Android 6 by default there’s a notification on the phone once you connect it via USB, and from there you can set the mode to file transfer, as @piero pointed out (if this mechanism is not malfunctioning on your phone which would need investigating).
Since Android 15 by default you also get prompted for your screen unlock method (if you set any) when enabling file transfer.

I think I didn’t explain myself clearly: all options were disabled (all the buttons were greyed out), so I couldn’t change anything. Only switching to debug mode allowed me to resolve the issue. In terms of security, debug mode is certainly not the best option.

Are you sure of your cable ?
or PC drivers ?

Yes because now everything is fined in debug mode with same USB cable

That is not a plausible answer regarding your cable. I also had problems with FP6 and cables (or maybe the port), C->C cable did not work, though it was from a past Pixel I had. Some good old A->C worked great.
