Fairphone 6 GPS stopped working

As of yesterday GPS stopped working on my FP6.

I updated the phone a couple of days ago to /e/OS 3.6-a15-20260312593772-official-FP6, Android 15, 12 March 2026. Maybe that update triggered the problem, I am not sure.

To investigate the issue I tried the following actions:

  • Restarted phone several times
  • Installed GPStest and GPS test apps: both can see satellites, but none are in use.
  • Installed and checked permissions of apps such as Maps, Google maps, and Waze. All have access to location, but none of them can see accurately were I am.

Is there anything else I can do to investigate the issue?

Installed IMG-e-3.6-a15-20260312593772-official-FP6 on my new Fairphone6 today (3rd of April 2026) . Also have no location services. Can see satellites but non are used. Also checked Advanced privacy settings for fake locations and disabled that. Still the GPS is not working for this device.

I have flashed the same IMG-e-3.6-a15-20260312593772-official-FP6 image to the Fairphone6 again and this time location services are indeed working.

Thanks for sharing, is this something I, as a non-developer, can also easily do? I have requested FairPhone customer support to help me and I am waiting for their response.

There are risks involved with flashing your phone. It could ā€˜brick’ the device if done inappropriately. If FairPhone is not able or willing to help you, I would be willing to guide you through the process by remote call or if my assumption is correct and you are located in the Netherlands or Vlaanderen, help you on location.

Let me know what you would prefer.

Thanks for the offer @Odyssey. Let’s first wait for the next e/OS release, which I suppose will be later this month. I hope that installing that release will resolve the issue just like it did when you reinstalled the current release. In the meantime I will use an old phone for navigating by car.

My GPS still works, but maps applications are unable to load and connect to my network. An update was promised to arrive in the upcoming days, but that was over a week ago…

Hello Ilse. It looks to be the same issue for me: apps installed but ineffective (exp: Citymapper installed but only able to route me where… I’m currently standing), apps impossible to install (Calimoto, CEV car maintenance).

I use Aurora Store and each time, same sequence: install is launched, seems to progress normally, then ā€œopenā€ button briefly appears, then back to install button and nothing more happens.

After upgrading to the new e/OS release the issue disappeared for me. I have uncheck the box in my System settings to delete old installation. In that way I will have the freedom to revert to a previous release next time this kind of problem happens.

Hi, could you please detail where is that setting?

Settings => system updates => three dots => settings => ā€˜delete updates after they have been installed’

Note: I am having a FP6 and am translating this for you from Dutch, not sure what the exact wording is in English installation and on different phone brands or models.

Thanks. But I think this setting is just to delete the downloaded file of the installed update, not to allow reverting to a previous install.

You may be right, I have not had the opportunity yet to test it myself. It would be a nice feature to have though, because it would make it a bit easier to investigate an issue.
