Regain your privacy! Adopt /e/OS the deGoogled mobile OS and online servicesphone

Is there an ETA when the documentation and ROM become available, the link now points to the homepage? Just received a Fairphone 6 and am happy to contribute/test and provide active feedback.

I bought today my FP6, so just waiting it and install /e/OS on it

Are you referring to the “Regain your privacy …” link above? This is the standard signature of posts here in this forum, unless users turn it off.

It would be nice to include screenshots in the installation manual.

I am lost after

  1. Reboot on fastboot by running the command in the PC console adb reboot bootloader

If I choose “Start” here

then the phone just boots normally.

What to select?
How do I know that the phone rebooted on fastboot?

The phone’s state Fastboot mode is highlighted in red. The command

fastboot devices

will cause the phone to identify itself by serial number and its state, expect to see a response as:

123xyz456 fastboot

The command to get you started

adb reboot bootloader

is intended to give the user confidence that they have booted correctly.

Thanks for your reply,
but I do not know what to do.
(Installing e/OSon FP2 and FP3 was much easier)

Do you mean that adb reboot bootloader is not necessary?

On Smartphone Selector it says that e/OS were available for FP6 through the installer but

Great news to have the possibility to install /e/OS on the FP6  I will do it tomorrow when I will receive mine. Hope soon via /e/OS Installer.

Hi, in the caution section of the doc, there’s no example where the Security patch Level is older on the origin Android that in the /e/OS build. It would be nice to know if the /e/OS install is safe in this case.

Hi,

I received my FP6 5 minutes ago and i want to install /e/OS on it. The security patch of my FP6 is 05.05.2025 on Android 15 so it’s possible to install /e/OS on it, right ?

Thanks for your reply

EDIT : I did it and it works

To confirm for those who are asking.
If you have the May 5th security patch on your FP6, you will be able to update the phone to /E/OS/ out of the box. The guidance, is that you cant downgrade without bricking your phone.

if i am reading this right - you should be able to go sidewards from official, community and stock - (which will need a reflash) in going sidewards, the security patch level between the OS will need to be the same or a higher version, anything below will brick the phone.

Hi everyone!

There’s seems to be a mismatch in the security level patch? Between the reported version and the installed version, unless I’m misunderstanding…

The current install documentation mentions:

  • Security patch: 2025-06-05

After installing e/os to my FP6 I go to Settings → About phone → Android version, and this is the reported security:

Android security update:

  • May 5, 2025

Vendor security patch level:

  • May 5, 2025

I’ve installed the zip named:

  • IMG-e-3.0.2-a15-20250627504414-official-FP6.zip

I see some people in Fairphone’s forum reporting bricking the phone doing a rollback to the latest FP version.

With the information provided above, is it safe to revert? or should we follow what the reported security level in the install page/wiki is?

Thanks in advance!

Can you post a screenshot of the /e/OS version and those two dates from the settings?

The brickings make no sense if the patch level is the same in both OSes.

This needs clearing up first, your screenshot would help.

I hope this helps.

Can only upload one at a time, so see next post for other screenshot

This /e/OS 3.0 version includes the Android security patches available as of May 2025.

I should have posted this first, but was unaware of the post limitation (had to wait 30 min)

@Manoj … The FP6 install guide currently suggests a security patch level of June 5 for 3.0.2-a15-20250627504414-official-FP6, but a device running this version actually reports May 5.
What’s the real security patch level of 3.0.2-a15-20250627504414-official-FP6?

This is important to know urgently, because there are already some device brickings reported in the Fairphone forum by users who reverted from /e/OS back to Fairphone’s current OS build (May 5 patch level).
