Fairphone Gen 6 (FP6) camera zoom broken

I’ve installed /e/OS on my FP6 (easy!) And checking if everything works as expected. First problem that I found was that the camera app (also Open Camera) is not able to use the 2x zoom.

Does anyone have a better app being able to use the zoom function?

Since zoom wasn’t working for the stock camera app in e/os, I tried a couple of GCam builds, and while the camera works, can confirm the zoom is not working there either.

I see the stock FPCam is supported for older models, would be nice to get a mention in the documentation if there are plans to do the same or not with the FP6.

Same issue, no zoom home installed eos

Same, I would really like to see the Fairphone camera app to be released for FP6 /e/OS

Same here, no zoom in the default app but also with other camera apps installed with F-Droid

Same problem with my FP6 + /e/os/, no camera zoom with the default app, nor with other photo apps.

There is no 60fps video recording on FP6 with e/os either.

Same here. Just bought the FP 6. Very disappointed to find I can’t zoom. Even though the tools are there, they do not work in any combination of camera that I have tried. It is a pretty basic requirement of a smartphone camera these days.

The fact that the zoom doesn’t work does make me worry about the other phone features.

Also concerned about the reports that other cameras apps apparently don’t have a functional zoom when installed. I may have to return the phone which is a bore.

Must be a first adopter problem, report it on gitlab else nothing will happen. This is a community forum, users help users usually nothing from here is being transfered to dev. Only on the version feedback they might pick something up.

@Vicc If you don’t need to use it right now, keep it a bit more. If you don’t have patience send it back, it is difficult to say how quick they will fix it. This is not a huge software company, it is a small team trying to give us privacy from big tech.

I can see that a ticket has been opened on Gitlab:

I guess hopefully that the devs will soon start to work on it.

My husband bought the fairphone 6 e/os and the camera zoom function also doesn’t work…

What to do? Since I read several identical issues and other camera apps have no zoom function either we’re worried it is a hardware problem…

Do you guys wait for an update or do you send the device back?

I don’t think its a hardware problem since its not a problem on the Google Android version which is the exact same hardware.

Okay, thanks for the reply. You’re right about the fact that the android version doesn’t experience this issue, so let’s hope an update will fix it soon.

I’ve just updated to 3.0.4-a15-20250708507307-official-FP6.
Camera zoom still doesn’t work.
That’s quite annoying. You pay 50 € + for the Murena edition and basic features just won’t work.

It is very unfortunate, paying the extra is not just the OS. Maybe the only got the phone when it was released so they need time figuring out everything. Murena is not Samsung, BBK or what ever.

I am also bumped out that the zoom is not working I just wait switching until it works. It is a nice white looking paper weight :grin:

Murena has an official partnership with Fairphone. Fairphone even sells the phone with /e/OS preinstalled in their own shop (I got it from there). One can surely expect to get a functioning camera then.

One could also expect to be able to buy official accessories from Fairphone store on launch day, which it wasn’t.

Well well, expectations…

You are right, they are not Samsung or Apple, and I am totally fine with that. I don’t expect the latest high end components or technical gimmicks. All I expect is a fair phone. Fair to the workers, fair to the environment and fair to the customers. And the latter means, that at least the basic functions should work as expected. And if not, this should be fixed by an update within a few days.
e/OS is not any dirty hack. It is a phone operating system that is officially advertised and sold via the fairphone shop. So I can expect it to work.

Hello! Recently, I managed to install /e/os on my device and I confirm the same issues with the camera. I will add that while I used the preinstalled android version, the camera worked perfectly fine - therefore, it seems rather a software problem on the /e/os side (?)
Looking forward for an update that will fix the issue asap.

Also, quite curious if there are other users that they have /e/os on their FP6 and no issues with the camera.
