Feedback for v2.9

  • Vendor Name : Fairphone

Hi.
This version is the best one… thanks to the developers… but keeps some issues with physical sim and esim with 2 different providers on my FP4.
Until v.2.8 I cannot have both sims. With v.29, it is possible (it is great to receive phone call from my 2 numbers), but i cannot have internet at the same time.
That means that if i have no wifi, I need to turn off one of my 2 sims.
Hope that v.2.10 can fix the problem.

phone Pixel 6a, updated to latest factory Android 14

Issue: e-2.9-a14-20250322478432-community-bluejay.zip does not flash from factory (android 14 factory)

Solution: Flash e-2.8-a14-20250220470208-community-bluejay.zip from factory and use OTA to update

I upgraded a second Pixel 6a to /e/ on 25MAY2025. The 2.9 recovery installed fine. The e-2.9 would not flash and failed exit code 1. I did download a second copy and checked with sha256. Same failed to flash exit code 1.

I was successful in flashing e 2.8 and used the OTA to upgrade to e 2.9

So far everything is working well on e 2.9 on the Pixel 6a. A minor issue with initial flash which may trip up newcomers.

Thank you all the DEV’s!

Fresh install after full Format Data and then Wipe from TWRP.

My download is:
e-2.9-s-20250321478216-official-herolte.zip

Installed fresh after full wipe from TWRP, because /e/OS recovery couldn’t use adb update (Unauthorized error).

The ROM is working flawlessly, banking apps are working, communicators working.
The only thing so far not working well is Call Recorder. I really would appreciate it to be fixed because I currently have a dementia patient who wants to be recorded while I’m calling him, so there is trust between us. They obviously allowed me to be recorded.

The error is:

“Cannot Begin Recording” or something similar when I call and the call is beginning, showing the record button. I also accepted first permissions after it asked me.

Thank you for a great work!

Also, encryption is not working well after installing apps (it hangs on 00:10 time to finish), but I found a workaround with encrypting the phone after fresh install, and then installing apps.

I can test the issue if it’s nercessary if it speeds up the process.

Hello, It is my first experience with /e. I used the installation procedure, everything run smoothly. The user experience is pretty fine with Wifi connection, but the mobile data doesn’t work. The phone is limited to UMTS voice and SMS. The states found in the dump file show that the “RilDataRadioTechnology” is unknown as shown below
Service states:
1={mVoiceRegState=0(IN_SERVICE), mDataRegState=1(OUT_OF_SERVICE), mChannelNumber=3044, duplexMode()=0, mCellBandwidths=, mOperatorAlphaLong=null, mOperatorAlphaShort=null, isManualNetworkSelection=false(automatic), getRilVoiceRadioTechnology=3(UMTS), getRilDataRadioTechnology=0(Unknown), mCssIndicator=unsupported, mNetworkId=-1, mSystemId=-1, mCdmaRoamingIndicator=-1, mCdmaDefaultRoamingIndicator=-1, mIsEmergencyOnly=false, isUsingCarrierAggregation=false, mArfcnRsrpBoost=0, mNetworkRegistrationInfos=[NetworkRegistrationInfo{ domain=PS transportType=WLAN registrationState=UNKNOWN networkRegistrationState=UNKNOWN roamingType=NOT_ROAMING accessNetworkTechnology=UNKNOWN rejectCause=0 emergencyEnabled=false availableServices= cellIdentity=null

In the log file, I found some “radio” entities not found in the VINTF manifest like:
“05-25 09:27:20.188 0 0 I [ 25.516119,3] servicemanager: Could not find android.hardware.radio.data.IRadioData/slot1 in the VINTF manifest. No alternative instances declared in VINTF.”
May this be the cause? What can you advise, shall I try a new installation?
Many thanks!

Try another call recorder from F-droid or from “Open Source App” in AppLounge

Thanks for suggestion. Unfortunately, every call recorder app I tried, doesn’t record calls. My microphone works flawlessly, but still, cannot record with any app. Even tried to select different sound source like “Communication audio” or something similar, but hear only dead silence.

It suggests some internal problem with the ROM.
I also tried “Recorder” from default apps, and it records my microphone.

That’s why I simply suggest that this is the internal problem of the ROM

Are you in a country which legally allows to record calls?
If not, this feature might be (or should be) blocked.

Carrier restrictions might also apply.

Here’s an older list in a Google support article, just as a reference that this all plays a role … Call Recording availability - Google Phone app Community

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I knew it that’s something to do with internal ROM policy. My country is not on the list.

So, my question is. If I change the location in the system, would it allow me to record, or it’s not possible, because it will detect my Sim card and not allow to record?

Also, if it’s not possible, will community build help me to unlock it?

You make it sound like it’s not about obeying actual laws. But it is.

It’s not a current list, I just pointed to it as a reference for the fact that there is a distinction. Please inform yourself about the current laws of the country you are in.

Are you asking a public forum for help with something possibly illegal in your country while giving the impression you don’t have a clue whether it is legal as well as giving the impression you don’t care whether it is legal?

I’m not in legal jurisdiction right now. You are only in legal when you use your name and citizenship. Then you are obligated to respect laws and regulations. But if I have private conversation, it’s not in the legal, it’s private. Legal is only if you invoke it, but by default you are speaking with human beings, and that’s on totally different jurisdiction.

It’s the same if you have a hammer. It’s maybe illegal in some countries to use that tool to bang it after 22:00, but if you are on the private and not invoking legal, then if you speak with your neighbors, and they allow it, there is no illegal activity. Because legal stems from natural law between human beings, not the other way around.

The same is with encrypted messages in Android, maybe it’s illegal in some countries, but only if you agree with being corporate name, then you must follow, but if it’s between your friends, there is no regulation that can stop you, because natural law is above legal regulations.

That’s why we have Open Source, you can compile yourself, as a human, not as a corporate entity. This is for the humanity to flourish, not to be bound by corporate laws.

My friend with dementia asked me to record him, so it’s not illegal, it’s private, and it protects him from making bad mistakes, it’s for the purpose of enhancing his life, and for our relationship to be preserved. He cannot even write what’s important, because his eyesight is deteriorating

In most country it is forbiden to reccord WITHOUT the consent of the person

Also this is why RGPD impose consent for cookies on websites

As before, “forbidden” only for citizens, not for the natural people. Totally different jurisdiction. As a natural human being, I don’t even have to ask others for permission if this does not cause harm. For example, if somebody has dementia, and forgets things and can listen to the recording, obviously not distribute those recordings, but only use it to function better, to recall what’s being said in the previous call conversation.

Hello. Well this is what I did already without success see https://community.e.foundation/t/didnt-succeed-to-enable-mobile-data-on-g6-plus/69924/16. Now I am digging into the log files. I can understand that a bad setting could lead to “networkRegistrationState=UNKNOWN” but why " getRilDataRadioTechnology=0(Unknown)"?

Ohh I didn’t realize you are the one with the Moto G6 Plus issue…

The dumpstate_log shows a lot of warnings and “failed” Lshal debug commands mostly about hardware.radio “entities”.

I made further investigation in the dump files and I isolated these errors:
“RIL reported invalid PCC (HIDL)”
“Invalid PhysicalChannelConfig java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Physical cell ID 42293 is over limit. [PHONE0]”

Can’t this be a compatibility issue with the radio interface and RIL or associated configuration files?
Here are the RIL versions:
RIL_register: RIL version 15
RIL Daemon version: Qualcomm RIL 1.0
[gsm.version.ril-impl]: [Qualcomm RIL 1.0]
