Device
- Vendor Name: Google
- Device name: Pixel 9 Pro
- Device CodeName: caiman
- Version of /e/OS which existed previously: the stable one before 4.0
- Is the device Rooted / Not rooted: not rooted
Problem
Immediately after updating to /e/OS 4.0 and rebooting, mobile data stopped working on my KPN eSIM. My Youfone fysical SIM is working.
Voice calls still work, but the phone no longer registers for packet data.
I used ChatGPT to do a lot of checks and ultimately this were my findings and below is the summary by ChatGPT:
Symptoms
KPN eSIM:
-
Voice service works.
-
Mobile data does not work.
-
Data service: Disconnected -
Data network type: Unknown -
Data registration state: NOT_REG_OR_SEARCHING -
Voice network falls back to EDGE (previously LTE/5G).
What I tested
I performed the following troubleshooting steps:
-
Reset APN settings.
-
Created manual APN (
internet). -
Selected built-in KPN APN.
-
Reset network settings.
-
Removed and reinstalled the KPN eSIM.
-
Requested and installed a completely new replacement KPN eSIM.
-
Rebooted multiple times.
-
Enabled/disabled airplane mode.
-
Tested automatic and manual network selection.
None of these steps solved the issue.
Comparison test
I use a physical Youfone fysical SIM together with the KPN eSIM.
Results:
-
LTE works immediately.
-
5G NSA is available.
-
Voice and mobile data both work.
-
Data network type: LTE -
Voice network type: LTE
The Youfone SIM uses the same MCC/MNC (20408) as the KPN eSIM.
This indicates:
-
the modem hardware is functioning;
-
LTE/5G works correctly on the device;
-
the issue appears specific to the KPN eSIM after updating to /e/OS 4.0.
Timing
The issue appeared immediately after updating from /e/OS 3.x to /e/OS 4.0.
Before the update the KPN eSIM worked normally.
Question
Has anyone seen a regression affecting (KPN) eSIMs on Pixel 9 Pro (caiman) after the /e/OS 4.0 update?
