Feedback on the Gigaset GS6

Salut,
Voici un petit retour sur l’usage et la pertinence du Gigaset GS6 avec /e/OS.
Concernant le téléphone, c’est un modèle milieu de gamme largement assez performant pour mes besoins.
La version 4.0 de /e/OS ne ma pas dérouté comparé à Android One.
Toutes mes applications se sont installés sans soucis y compris Android Auto.
Dans le détail, voici les applications que j’utilise:

  • Whatsapp
  • Ezviz
  • Zepp
  • Thunderbird
  • RPN DozeCal
  • KDE Connect
  • Crédit Agricole Ma Banque
  • Weenect
  • GeoBaroud
  • Cartes IGN
  • Network Cell
  • Tempo
  • Boussole
  • Android Auto
  • SMS backup & Restore

Les 128 Go sont largement suffisant pour stocker en local les cartes DFCI (Défense de la forêt contre les incendies)

Android Auto fonctionne correctement avec le câble USB branché sur le véhicule mais refuse l’association en bluetooth sans erreurs.

Il reste quelques détails cosmétiques à corriger dans les sous-menus des paramètres, mais rien de rédhibitoires.

Après deux semaines d’utilisation, je ne reviendrais pas en arrière sur un Google OS.

Here is a little feedback on the use and relevance of the Gigaset GS6 with /e/OS.
Regarding the phone, it’s a mid-range model that is more than enough for my needs.
Version 4.0 of /e/OS didn’t confuse me compared to Android One.
All my applications installed without any problem, including Android Auto.
In detail, here are the apps I use:

  • WhatsApp

  • Weenect
  • GeoBaroud
  • IGN maps
  • Network Cell
  • Tempo
  • Compass

The 128 GB is more than enough to store the DFCI (Forest Fire Defense) cards locally.

Android Auto works correctly with the USB cable plugged into the vehicle but refuses pairing to Bluetooth without errors.

There are still some cosmetic details to fix in the settings sub-menus, but nothing disabling.

After two weeks of use, I wouldn’t go back on a Google OS.

Hello,

After updating to 4.1.1, double tap to wake up is gone and the phone refuses to charge without the charging control enabled.

I’d like to add that Murena’s current offer is excellent: the two Gigaset GS6 models with /e/OS in their shop are now priced slightly lower than the standard Android versions on that well-known monopolistic online marketplace that shall not be named.

And the only other de-Googled GS6 option, the Volla Phone Plinius (which, as far as I know, is identical in hardware to the GS6) with either privacy-friendly Volla OS or Ubuntu Touch, costs nearly twice as much as Murena’s version.

I have GS6 Pro, had come with 4.0 and updated to 4.1 - I have never switched on charging control and my phone charges fine with 30W or 25W Motorola and samsung chargers respectively.

Hello,

After disabling all the battery management options and a reboot, the phone accepts to charge as expected without charging control.

I recently updated my GS6 to e/OS 4.1.1 and since then I encountered a minor issue with the camera app. The standard resolution setting is 4608x3456 (4:3 Format). After changing the resolution to a different size and restarting the app, the camera reverts to the previous/original settings. App has been resetted but it returns always to the above resolution. This appears with the main camera “ID 0” only. It seams my new settings are not being saved. Anybody encountered the same issue?

I have the same issue with the camera app supplied with the Murena GS6.

I use Open Camera app from Mark Harman and HD Camera. They keep resolution and format settings.

The best could be to find the original camera app from Gigaset but I didn’t find it.

Third party apps often do not cover the full scope of functions like the original apps. Thank you for this recommendation :+1: .

I must say I am not a happy bunny with the camera app provided on Murena GS6 Pro, maybe spoiled by previous RAZR 2022 one that was good. I tried plenty of apps, some of them do not recognise all 3 lenses, others can’t link to the gallery. Mark Harman in fact looked very similar to the /e/ native app which might be the fork of Mark Harman perhaps?

They both do not see lens 3 as macro which it obviously is, however it’s not a major issue.

If someone finds a good camera app using all 3 sets of lens on GS6 but with some high privacy score please let me know, I will appreciate it a lot! :grinning_face:
