Since @Marvelous asked me some feedback about the ShiftPhone8, here they are.
I had before a ShiftPhone 5me and was really happy with it but it started to fall appart due to its age so I bought the SP8 8.0 directly on the SP website.
It came at the begining with a Google Android which i refused to use to i installed the Otter /e/OS. It’s all working fine now (except the bug I mentionned since the last update about the sound not working some times).
The camera is working fine. It’s not as good as an Iphone or samsung but for me it’s good enough.
It lacks a bit of details and can be blury if you take a picture at night
Pros and cons
Pros :
- a certain “responsability” of the brand to use fair trade material,
- a european brand while the rest is american or chinese or korean.
- They provide a ShiftOs Lite ungoogled but it wasn’t availlable when I bought my phone, that’s why I installed /e/Os.
- The phone is fast, holds well in the hand.
- they provide all the spare parts to fixe the phone. I used the spare parts on my all phone and it’s all very easy. They provide eveything.
Cons : Some times small bugs a restart can’t fix :
- once in a while the screen gets crazy dots and lines.
- The finger print detector is a bit buggous. You have to try several times before it unlock the phone (sometime i just unlock it with the pin).
To be honest i’m really happy with my phone and hope they continue providing us with phone like that.
