Fingerprint Sensor Shift8

Hey there,

just upgraded my Shift 8.1 to Murena and really love it!

However, the fingerprint sensor doesnt seem to work at all. I tried it so many times with different fingers and then my wife tried it but it does not vibrat even once. Anyone here with a hack for that issue?

All the best,
Thomas

For me it works, did it work before with Stock SOS-G?
Did you install /e/OS correctly, with all drivers?
Otherwise sometimes the protective foil can cause issues, although I use the stock one and it works just fine. That being said when configuring the fingerprint for the first time sometimes it doesnt work instantly, but usually once it recognizes the first tap it works just fine and I never have issues unlocking the phone with the configured fingerprints.
So maybe:

  1. Try to add a new fingerprint, that should work if it doesnt restart the process, check if the protective foil is applied correctly etc
  2. Check if it works with SOS-G or SOS-L (Stock Android by Shift GmbH)

Hey,

thanks for the reply!

1.) Unfortunately I did not check with Stock SOS-G… Though, cant really answer that question.
2.) I though I installed everything with /e/OS. I went through the whole installation process on their website. Is there any way to see if some drivers were not installed properly?
3.) The protection foil is the oiginal one from Shift. Guess they used the proper one…

BTW if I put my finger on the screen, it does recognize it and turn the light on the finger symbole white. But then it never turns it off (as too let you know when to move the finger) and it never vibrates…

All the best!

so,

i’m having the same issue. on the shift forum i found someone saying that the fingerprint works only on a locked bootloader. but the e/os doc 100% says to not do that. so i’m unsure what to do

Source Install /e/OS on a SHIFT SHIFTphone 8 - “otter”

I see Locking the Bootloader

but it does come with Red warnings.

I also have a locked bootloader.
@PowerUser did you lock the bootloader again after flashing /e/OS?
See: Install /e/OS on a SHIFT SHIFTphone 8 - “otter”
You can check if your bootloader is locked by enabling the developer settings:
System→ Developer Settings(Entwicklereinstellungen)→OEM Unlock(OEM-Entsperrung), this setting has to be disabled.
Note: Changing this setting resets the Phone, which is why it should be done soon after flashing a new ROM i.e. /e/OS.
