We got a new EV, a Skoda Enyaq, forced upon us by my wife’s employer
She’s using an iPhone, and Car Play works great, as expected.
I, however, am a proud member of the e/OS/ universe with an FP3 and FP5, but this also means I’m exempted from easy use of Android Auto (AA). So before messing up my daily driver (the FP5) I’ve got AA running on the FP3 following this instructions, unfortunately only 3 apps from the phone are available in the car: Google Maps, microG Settings and Emby, the latter is not usable as it requires an Emby Premier subscription to play media in the car, but I can browse my collections. microG Settings is not accessible from the car. Google Maps works flawlessly. So no issue in connecting and transferring data from and to the phone.
/edit:
Emby only showed after activating Unknown sources in the Developer Settings of AA
But Home-Assistant and OsmAnd~ are not available on the car and I’m wondering why (and also how to make it available). It might have something to do with HA being installed not from the Google Play store, but why is Emby available as it is installed from the same source?
In the AA details on the phone I can see both missing apps being listed in Version and Permission info.
Any one else encountering issues with Android Auto?
Hey @screenager,
this has to do something with the source of the installation. OsmAnd just works with the offical official playstore version. The fdroid (full license without paying) doesnt work as i know so far:
" Android Auto is software developed by Google that allows users to connect their Android devices to compatible vehicle multimedia systems. Android Auto provides an adapted and optimized version of the OsmAnd app for safe use while driving, making it easier and more secure to access the app’s navigation functions.
** Android Auto function is only supported when using the OsmAnd app available in the Google Play store.*
** If you have purchased OsmAnd Pro from the Amazon store, you can activate it in the OsmAnd Free version app downloaded from the Google Play store.*
** After this activation, you can use the Android Auto function for which you purchased a subscription to OsmAnd Pro in another app store."*
With other apps (like Maps/Magic Earth)
Sometimes clearing Android Auto storage and then re-enabling uknown sorces worked out as mentioned here:
yeah I figured that much. So it just means unless there is no solution provided from e/OS/ itself, Android Auto will be a lottery: some apps will work, others won’t and you will not know unless someone has tried it already
I’ve read somewhere Android Auto should be renamed to Google Auto and I start to appreciate that comment more and more
as kipry wrote it is up the install source, I’d guess you can trick AA into running more apps if you mark them as originating from the Play Store - @smu44 wrote it up how you modify the Store origin - [HOWTO] Get around the Google Play Store dependency problem
I use a Shift6mq and have the same problem. Some apps work just fine wired and wireless. The apps that don’t work are mostly map apps like ABRP, mobility+, organic maps, EVMaps, etc., but GMaps and the preinstalled Maps work.
I tried it with ABRP, but it didn’t help, my guess is that if you install an app via App Lounge, that step is already done since in the settings the source is already stated as microG Companion.
