FP5 Web Installer failed, phone bricked

Hi! I tried (re-)installing e/OS using the web installer. It got stuck at 12% (package install: super), and eventually failed. Now, my phone won’t boot at all. Whatever I try, the screen stays off and the phone does nothing. It doesn’t start, nor goes into fastboot mode whenever I try to force it to.
Any suggestions on how to proceed are very welcome!

If you connect it to a charger does charging start and particularly does it look the same as usual?

Unfortunately, it does not seem to do anything. It doesn’t vibrate, start or show anything on the screen. I know the battery is fully charged, as it was so before starting the installer.

I think fastboot mode is going to be the way to go, but gently! If not successful at first attempt many times an overnight rest has recovered a phone.

I think that working via the hardware buttons only is the way (probably ??). The information here is usually reliable https://www.hardreset.info/devices/fairphone/fairphone-5/. The button methods are described here under Tutorials > Hidden modes.

The method to Bootloader and to Fastboot mode are described by different routes, but Fastboot mode gives the chance to start the manual install via the fastboot script as Install /e/OS on a Fairphone FP5 - “FP5”

Thanks for your help! Unfortunately, no success… Trying both the hard reset button combinations and the combinations to enter fastboot still yielded no results. The black screen remains and still no response from the device whatsoever.
I’m contacting Fairphone today to see whether they can help.

Be sure there is current flowing. Did you re-install the battery already to be 100% sure it is making contact?

Yes… Also tried with the battery of my partner’s fairphone 5. No luck there either

It sounds like a hardware defect then. No matter how I bricked a phone or tablet before, usually I had signs of living as in showing me it can’t boot or it is charging :thinking:

I agree! Never had this bad a failure before.
I am sending it back to Fairphone to have it repaired. (hopefully)

Thanks so much everyone, for thinking along!
