FP5 - Wrong location

Hi all,

My Fairphone 5 always reports a location that is around 100 km away from my real one.

Having checked with the app My Location, the problem seems to be with the “Network” location, which for some reason is always reported to be at this point in the middle of nowhere. On the other hand, once GPS location kicks in, the reported location is correct.

How can I solve the issue? What is the “Network” location, is it the one reported by cell towers? How can I disable this as a location source?

I’m running /e/OS 2.6.3-t-20241217455358-official-FP5 on a Murena-bought device.

Thanks!

Check Advanced Privacy (the screen to the left of your home screen). It might be set to provide a fake location to all apps. You can either deactivate this or select (with the :gear:) which apps are supposed to get your real location.

It is the one calculated from the known positions of cell towers.

Settings - System - microG - Location - Mobile network location - Request from Mozilla

Settings - System - microG - Location - Location server - Use /e/OS’s location system

I don’t know whether both are needed to be disabled or if just one of them is enough. Request from Mozilla is kind of a leftover setting from earlier, as the corresponding Mozilla database got discontinued some time ago.

Thank you, sadly it wasn’t the case (but always good to check!)

Amazing, this solved the issue! Thank you very much

Update: the issue is still there! Probably changing the toggles yesterday made it work for a bit, but now I’m back to being located in the middle of nowhere

The app My Location com.mirfatif.mylocation can help to identify if an odd result from Network location (or other cause) is responsible for this error.
