After reading this topic and browsing through the Fairphone and e-foundation articles, I’m beginning to think it is safe to do this without bricking my phone. But I’d like to double, triple, ultra check for obvious reasons.
For context, I updated Android to the latest version on the FP6 when I got it three days ago. Presumably this was FP6.QREL.16.82.0, which has a SPL date of 5th June 2026.
After the web installer for /e/OS failed, I did a command line install and it’s now fully up and running (with the help of people here ).
The phone now has /e/OSv4.0-a15, with SPL stated June 1st 2026. But! I read on the e-foundation’s article, the following:
On /e/OS, the rollback date is always set to the 5th day of the SPL’s month, regardless of the specific day in the SPL.
So does that mean my SPL dates between Android and /e/OS are matching? And thus it should be safe to lock the bootloader?
From experience, even with get_unlock_ability : 1
if you relock in your situation (older SPL but same month), the device won’t boot, But you will be able to unlock again, it is not bricked as if you use an older month SPL.
