Actuallly there is no icon/link availavle for curve.

Agreed, it’s a great proof of concept and it would be fantastic for e/os/ to include a native, privacy-focussed wallet app, if possible (I know this could be difficult with banking regulations…)

@oleksii Curve uses Onfido kyc (and some “fast” eligibility kyc that talks to their own API gateway, can’t say how they instrument that). A virtual wise CC could be a negative signal? But nobody will make their fraud logic transparent to explain what made you end up in the wrong bucket. Haven’t seen the onboarding yet myself if anybody wants to give an outline of the registration steps I’d be interested

It’s a simple process.

  • Enter moibile number and enter text message verification code.
  • Provide debit/credit card details, either manually or using the camera.
  • Approve a zero valued transaction being processed on the provided card.
  • After I approved the transaction this is when I got told ‘the computer says no,’ I’m unidentifiable.

What I don’t understand - where is the benefit of mobile payment with a smartphone? Contactless card payment is already super easy - so why transfer it to a smartphone?
Additional data is generated, other participants who want to earn money read your data. The security risks increase and so do the technical requirements.
Contactless payment with a smartphone doesn’t fit in at all with the concept of /e/OS.

97% of the time this is indeed the case, and that’s how I’ve been using /e/OS for the past 6 months. I’m perfectly fine with having a physical Wise card and having a running app on my phone. It’s handy and I have full control.

It is also more and more data collection the more you put on your device :wink:

Please clarify which data collection you are referring to. It seems to me that we have lost the common sense between the protection of personal data and how financial tech work.

General one, Wise for example if you want notifications to be used it needs firebase and firebase is a big data collector.

I can confirm that it works. It is handy and far better than using Google pay, which doesn’t work on e/OS anyway.

I will use it, when I forget my wallet with my plastic cards. :woozy_face:

As a reminder, you can easily switch wallets, search for NFC in Settings :wink: .
Very useful for me, as Curve conflicts with french CIC Pay! (BTW, still working fine here).
There is also an option to temporarily override the default wallet with an opened app.

Added a Wise card to Curve without any problem, will try it in a couple of days…

I appreciate the efforts to make mobile payment easier on /e/.

However, if you look at this quote from @GaelDuval’s article:

I think it is pretty evident that Curve is not a company we ultimately want to trust with our data. Not to mention that the app is not the only point where data can flow to nefarious actors. Advanced Privacy does nothing to prevent data from being exfiltrated and sold on the server side.

The other option mentioned, Zettle, is owned by PayPal, which in turn is connected to Peter Thiel. This also raises a myriad of red flags.

Therefore both of these can be considered short-term solutions at best.

Ideally, I think /e/ should work together with the GNU Taler project, which is creating an open-source digital payment system that is 100% anonymous for the buyer and uses existing currencies and prevents fraud and tax evasion by working on top of existing bank systems. It already works and is already in limited use in certain European cities.

While it is certainly more of a long term solution, I think its design and goals align very well with the values of the /e/ project and a collaboration could be mutually beneficial.

I’ve been trying to get my provided data deleted since Friday. In fairness Curve have corressponded with me via the original “non-reply” email address from which I received the response to my ID check helpdesk query.

The long and the short of it is that they now have my phone number, email address, postal address and bank card details for up to 12 years. Thanks Lithuania laws taking primacy over my right to delete my data under GDPR.

So that’s 12 years they can sell my sensitive data to brokers. Legally or otherwise. I’m very miffed with myself for just blundering ahead with signing up to the app without thinking through the process. I thought I could just pull out the GDPR ‘delete my data’ trump card if the app didn’t work on my phone.

Below is the body of the email I received confirming my account has been deleted, despite my identity being refused by them. Which is a bit odd, closing the account for someone Curve rejected to provide services.

Also they disclose why I don’t have a right to have my rejected information removed from their database. 10 years plus an extra 2 years if needed they get to potentially trade my information. Such a terrific result for my desire to keep my data as my data.

The Right to Erasure/Right to Be Forgotten under the GDPR is not absolute; Article 17.3(b) says that the right to have your personal data erased doesn’t apply where the processing is necessary for the controller to comply with law or regulation.

Curve Europe UAB’s privacy practices are grounded both in compliance with the GDPR and the Law on Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing of the Republic of Lithuania (the Law on AML). Under the Law on AML, we are required, inter alia, to conduct due diligence on anyone applying to open a Curve account and, therefore, to collect data required to verify the identity of the customer; during the course of our relations with the customer, we must collect and retain data on customer’s transactions, communications with the customer and other personal data (for further details please see Curve’s Privacy Policy).

I tried Curve on my FP4 rinning e/OS/ 2.9.
I could add my visa card and validate the verification step with my bank (3d secure). First payment I tried didn’t succeed though. It said my bank blocked the payment. I haven’t tried a second time yet.
My bank is Banque Populaire.

I have installed Curve (FP4, /e/OS v. 2.9) and today I tried the first payment without debt card and it works. I’m happy I can use this alternative for payments although I will prefer debt card.

i had the same issue after my fifth payment. afterwards i tried many times on other shops as well and it works. there might be some shops which dont like the curve payment even if they accept mastercard for example

Curve Pay is working fine for me on v2.9, been tapping and paying a lot with it.

It’s what made me able to switch to /e/OS. I was looking to a more recent version of Android and one day when I opened Curve on the stock ROM it asked me if I wanted to enable contactless payments. Then I immediately switched to /e/OS and can now enjoy all the new Android features.

Just wish Curve could give me a credit BIN instead of the debit BIN, but I’ve been able to use it for deposits with a credit card selected. They have started rolling out credit BINs in the UK, so maybe it’ll come to the rest of the world in a few months.
