I have gotten stuck in a boot loop while trying to flash eOS to my xperia XZ2 compact. The step in the guide at Install /e/OS on a Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact - “xz2c” that caused this situation is flashing the file copy-partitions-20220613-signed.zip. Recovery complained about some checksum but since the sha256 checksum was correct and the guide clearly told me to flash I chose to go ahead.
What steps do I need to take to boot into fastboot? I am unable to reach recovery so that is not an option. The device reboots/powers off as it is supposed to when I hold vol up+pwr.
I envy you that you have still that phone, mine started to have an unuseable USB port.
Anyhow, I remember that flashing boot and so on, then rebooting would result in not seeing the expected. Not sure anymore if I had to use the buttons or just the menus.
Well, I need to correct myself. I actually had fastboot available! After glowing red for a few seconds the LED seemed to turn itself of again and the display remained all black. I figured the phone had just powered off. In fact, the LED had turned blue, just a very dim blue that was not visible in daylight.
Another thing to note is you need to have the other end of the cable connected to a computer, not a charger. Having it connected to a charger will send the phone back into the boot loop.
Yeah! I used the procedure described under How to force the device to restart or shut down to get the phone to power off:
Long press the power key and the volume up key at the same time until your phone vibrates.
If you wish to force restart the device: release the keys at this point, and the device will restart.
If you wish to force shut down the device: continue pressing the keys. After a few more seconds, the device will vibrate 3 times and turn off.
Then I connected the cable to the computer. After that I held the volume up-key on the phone and connected the USB-C end of the cable to the phone. I continued to hold the volume up-key until the LED turned blue (a very faint blue as I said in the previous post) which indicates fastboot mode. Then I typed
fastboot devices
in the terminal on the computer and it showed the phone as connected.
