Galaxy Buds with /e/OS

Hi there,
I’ve got some Samsung Galaxy Buds FE and I’d like to use them with /e/OS.

  1. Is it correct that I can’t use ANC without the Samsung wearable App? It looks like it according to the manual.

  2. I’ve installed the app on an old phone but it doesn’t start. It complains about a modified Android version. Probably because the phone is rooted. On my non-root phone it does install and start, but it wants a bunch of permissions.
Is it correct that the app only works on non-rooted phones?
If thats the case and ANC can’t be switched on or off without the app, then I will get rid of those buds.
UPDATE: I’ve found a magisk hack on XDA which confirms that a rooted phone is a showstopper. I’ve not tested it yet.

Restricting permissions (e.g. contacts) is not possible , else the app won’t start. I would probably try it with the shelter app in order to give it a fake address book or restrict internet access with my firewall.

I didn’t expect that Samsung makes it so hard to use their buds with root, non-Samsung phones or without the app. Without the app, the buds work. I can start and stop audio and control the volume, but ANC is an important feature for me that can’t be controlled, apparently.
What I can do is to install the app on some phone, configure the buds with ANC and then remove the Samsung app again, but with that I still can’t switch off ANC and e.g. switch on transparent mode.

Hello!
Did you try starting the App without the permission for network access? If it starts, you could grant the contacts without fear. But you couldn’t go back to internet access.

Fot information: I have some Sennheiser buds and their app is much less nosy.

Hello, starting the app without network permissions doesn’t work, but works with blocking via Firewall.
The Galaxy Wearable app refuses to work in Android work profile/Shelter app. It says that it can’t read notifications in work profile, even though I did give permissions for that.
Thanks for your hints.
