Galaxy S9 boot stops before password entry

I bought a refurbished Samsung Galaxy S9 from Esolutions four years ago and have been very pleased with it.
Today I had a fight with Osmand trying to get it to reverse the direction of a route and it appeared overloaded. After I switched the screen off temporarily it wouldn’t switch on normally, it went into a restart but each time I try. the Samsung logo appears, then the e dot and sometimes briefly “your data is …” but it never gets as far as demanding the SIM password, it goes blank.
So I can’t start it, can anyone help, please?

If you put the phone on to charge do you see exactly the same charging screen as usual? Does the phone complete a charge cycle and notify fully charged?

Once fully charged is it possible to have the phone on long enough to Soft reset, that is Press together Volume down and Power for > 20 seconds.

Thanks for the rapid reply !
I put it on charge and it didn’t show the normal charging screen, it showed the charging from nothing display, so that was the problem.
And then it started, thanks very much for the tip.
Somehow the app must have unexpectedly used far more battery.
