Hi !
I want to report a bug concerning the “Gallery” app.
How to reproduce :
- Insert a SD card in your phone
- Save a picture on that SD card
- Open the “gallery” app and modify the picture (for example by resizing it)
- Save the modified version → the app crashes
The bug appears every time.
I have tried it on two Samsung S8, the bug appears for both.
Have I missed something ?
The gallery app as the right to access all storage on my phone.
Thank you
there’s no logcat on the 3 linked (and auto-closed) lineageos bugs either, so this is the one I can generate:
Requested path … doesn’t appear under [/storage/emulated/0]
is Gallery3d clearly unhappy about the sdcard path being outside the in-built storage
E AndroidRuntime: FATAL EXCEPTION: ProcessingTaskController
E AndroidRuntime: Process: com.android.gallery3d, PID: 7959
E AndroidRuntime: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Requested path /storage/786B-53DB/Pictures/IMG_20250512_163725.jpg doesn't appear under [/storage/emulated/0]

Thank you for your answer.
I’m not a developer, and I don’t know how to generate the logcat.
I understand that you have the same bug, and it also affects other devices, such as FP.
What would you suggest I do to resolve this issue? Should I post it on GitLab, or is it fine here?
Thank you
unless there’s multiple faults, the logcat is no longer necessary.
In gitlab I give more context how that exception logline comes about and what I’d do.
In the meantime, any editing app is a good workaround (Image Toolbox | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository), as in… this sucks, but isn’t critical (subset of users editing image on sdcard).

In fact, this problem was reported several years ago, but to date it has not been assigned to anyone. So I guess it’s not something to be prioritized for now.
In my case, all my photos are stored on the SD card folder, which makes the app totally unusable.
But as mentioned above, this is not an insurmountable problem, as there are plenty of similar applications. For instance, “Fossify Gallery” works pretty well.
