Hi guys!
I’m on my FP6 running /e/os v3.7.1.
I’m using George Romania app for banking and I discovered today that after the latest update installed from App Lounge (version 26.14.11-google) it crashes every time I log in.
When I first opened the app, after the update, it said that there’s a problem with my phone and that the app is not compatible, but that happened before and after a reboot it had been fixed. This time though, after the reboot I tried to log in with the fingerprint and it showed some panels which are usually shown when you install the app (like adding card to google pay). After which it loads for a brief second the home screen of the app and then crashes.
Tried clearing cache, rebooting the phone, even reinstalling the app. Still not worked.
I’m curious to see if this latest update also broke other people’s installations or am I one of few cases?
I also checked it on my backup googled android phone and it works perfectly there. Even managed to find my FP6 in the list of connected devices.
For further context, I noticed there were some versions in the past of George where it couldn’t be used. When it was usable though, it had limited (but more than enough) functionality. For reference see thread: Austrian George Application (Erste Bank)

Hi from Austria,
same here. Last update, updated from App Lounge, broke it.
George Version:
26.14.19-google at.erstebank.george
Phone/System:
FP 5, Android 15 e/os 3.7.3
I hope for a fast fix release as this is a game stopper for me.
I will try to get into the logs by tomorrow as there isn’t even an error message.

Hi there! Thanks for the reply and for looking into the logs.
Judging by the behaviour, I think they broke it on purpose.
Currently, I also raised a case with Erste Romania to see what they say. I basically asked if this is a bug or intended behaviour. Once I get a response from them I’ll come back with a comment.
It is nearly a deal breaker for me. The only feasible workaround I found was to use the George web app (in RO it is at george.bcr.ro), but it is very slow and much more inconvenient.
I managed to get the (obfuscated, R8 minimized) logs from my device. I will have a call with the helpdesk tomorrow to see where to send them.
On first sight it seems like the George app is trying to find a system string which can’t be found by a Jetpack Compose string resolver throwing an “StringIndexOutOfBoundsException” during recomposition of the “account overview” screen.
As I’m an android developer myself I could maybe reach out through the helpdesk and could get through to the developers in some way
. Or maybe some ERSTE BANK or S-IT Solutions dev is reading this
.
Anyway, stay tuned. I let you know if I get answers.

Hi there! I don’t know if you did some progress in the background, but the app started working again for me. I’m on version 26.14.19-google of George Romania. I’m a bit skeptical, no gonna lie, but fingers crossed this will last. If you did manage to contact them and they changed it because of your help, I want to sincerely thank you!
Sadly, this is not my doing, I’m on exact this version and it’s crashing for me. Anyway, glad to hear it is working at least for someone.
Does anyone know if it has maybe something to do with resource loading from playstore?
Meaning: if you download an app, not all resources are loaded during the update/install. A background service keeps track for settings changes, app changes, updates… to download additional resources like images and translations after the app is already installed. If there is a problem in this mechanism in App Lounge it could lead to this exception. Just an half-educated guess.
Hi, I’m from Austria too, and it never occurred to me that my George app wasn’t working. I just tested it, and I’m getting an error message too.
George App version: 26.14.19-google
FP6 e/OS 3.7.3-a15 official-FP6
I got this error message
Have you already opened a ticket?
Hopefully this get fixed early, this is a no-go for me.
@Lumineszenz
Hi there! Is it installed from AppLounge? If so, try to clear cache, force stop and reboot phone. This worked for me, but I later ran into the above described problem.
@prefectAtEarth sorry for the above excitement, but I spoiled it, as it now behaves the same, stopping every time I open the app.

Had this after each update.
Closing app, going to AppInfo, force stop app and clearing the cache(! Not the data) fixed it last time.
edit: @ferocious4905 seems like I have been to slow with my answer

@Lumineszenz I opened a ticket, waiting for 2nd level support to contact me. We will see if they call this time.

Hey everyone!
Not sure how much will this info be useful here as I’m neither /e/os/ nor FP user, but my George Croatia app started crashing the same way after last update (v26.14.16-google) on my POCO X3 Pro, LineageOS 20 (microG). After I log in, app home layout shows for a very brief second and then it crashes.
It’s seems the issue is not related specifically to your ROM or phone model.

Hi,
I had the same issue with George Österreich (app crashing without any errormessage). I think it was version 26.14.19-google as well. Clearing cache or complete reinstall from AppLounge didn’t help.
So I’ve tried to sideload an old version (26.10.10-google) from APK-Mirror. I then got the same error as @Lumineszenz . I think the apk detects somehow if it was not installed from GPlay (=AppLounge).
Today I then found out that the latest version on AppLounge and GPlay is now 26.10.10 again. I reinstalled the app from AppLounge and it is working normally again! Seems like ErsteBank got aware of the issue!
(Just to make sure - Warning: If you reinstall the app you need a second registered device to be able to log-in again)

Hi,
2nd Level called me to get the logs, so they are starting to actually work on it now (I hope so).
Yes, funny, just checked on another device. Seems like they have a more global impacting issue they rolled back the update in google-playstore to 26.10.10. Gives me at least some hope that it will be fixed for e/os users too.

They updated it now to be 26.14.24-google
I hesitated on uninstalling and reinstalling the app to get the old version from App Lounge, since I would then have to go back to the bank to set up my app again.
But now not even that is possible.
The app still crashes after logging in
