Ghost Touching on Fairphone 3 after Update

After Upgrading my Fairphone 3 from IMG-e-2.9-t-20250321478215-official-FP3 to IMG-e-3.0.1-t-20250606498724-official-FP3 I have a lot of random touches on my screen. About every 30 seconds. I first ignored it one day, so I am not sure if it is really the update. I have a screenprotector that has cracks. I never experienced this before. Perhaps the screensensivity is to high… I am not sure if I should remove the screenprotector, it is quite expensive for Fairphone.

I succeeded in viewing the ghostly touches on activating the developer options where I can visualise the touches. After waiting about 20 seconds I can see them mostly on the upper an lower border of the screen very short and quick

Thanks in advance for your help.

This looks like a nice analysis you might try to install the app community.fairphone.checkup, that is Checkup aka Fairphone Checkup to try to see if the screen is being negatively impacted by the possibly critically damaged “protector”.

Oh now it has become totally worse.
The display no longer responds to touch at all.
At first I noticed that the arrangement of the columns in the apps was reversed and I thought that the ghost clicks had already messed up the settings. Then I noticed on the home screen up to 15 ghost clicks flitting across the screen. And finally it stopped responding to my own touches.
I removed the screen protection and restarted the device and now I can’t even type in the pin number for my sim card.

Sounds like a hardware problem. You can work on it easily enough. I would try re-seating the screen connector. If that doesn’t help, I’d replace the screen.

After booting into recovery mode twice and trying adb, I noticed that the screen was responding to touches again. So I was suddenly also able to log in to my smartphone again and to make backups.
I had the screenprotector removed, but the ghost touches are still there, just much less frequently.
I know, it almost doesn’t sound believable.
So now it feels more like it might have something to do with the update to 3.0.1-t-20250606498724 again. At the moment, the clicks are almost only at the bottom right of the screen.

Oh I had read one word incorrectly because I was fixated on another word. Screen protector instead of screen connector. Anyway, thanks for the reply. Screen connector also sounds plausible, as something may have come loose due to vibration.
In any case, the ghostly clicks continue, although everything else works fine. I’ll try to find out how to re-seat that connector.

Now the screen is completely dark. I watched a video for about 15 minutes. In the middle of it, the screen went dark and could no longer be operated. It seemed unusually warm. The device can start again, but only the lamp lights up. I’ve had the device for so many years, it’s a strange coincidence that such errors occurred after the update.

the update coincidence is weird, here are two disparate cases out of the forum history:
