Google Maps does no longer show topographic map

Hi,

I’m running /e/OS 2.9 on my Fairphone 4. Since a couple of days, the default topographic background map within Google Maps does no longer work - it just gives me a very light-grey background, as if there would be no map available. When switching to the aerial/satellite background map, everything works smoothly.

I already disabled Advanced Privacy and cleared data and cache, but without luck.

Is anybody else experiencing the same problem?

Thx!

Hi @mu88,

I experienced the same problem with Google Maps on a Pixel 8 running /e/OS 2.9 and 3.0.
Have not found a solution yet.

@Manoj: I’m pretty sure you have some testing devices, right? Can you reproduce this issue, too? Thx for your feedback and precious time :pray:t2:

If you are discussing about the default mode of Google Maps, it is working for me on a OnePlus 8 pro with v3.0 with Advanced Privacy enabled as well as disabled.

Did you try clearing the cache of the app?

Just opened the app again and voilá, the background is working again without changing something!
What’s going on here?!
:exploding_head:

Lol, here the same! :face_in_clouds::exploding_head::face_with_spiral_eyes: Didn’t change anything, but now it’s working again

@MaMaTT88: as stated in my very initial post, clearing the app’s storage (data and cache) didn’t do any good

Still not working on my S10e (v2.9-t).
This is very annoying.

Note that I’ve tried to clear cache, restart my phone. Didn’t help.

…whereas it’s still working for me, so super strange :expressionless:

Reinstalling the app fixed the problem. :person_shrugging:

…and for me it’s broken again since this morning after working properly for almost a week :unamused::expressionless:

Have you tried to reinstall?

Yes, but without luck. First I cleared the cache - no luck. Then I cleared the app storage - no luck. Now I reinstalled the app two times, still no luck.

Have you tried to throw away your phone?
Seriously, that’s crazy!

Hi, same here. I’ve a Galaxy S9 and a pixel tablet. Same on both.
Found that using an old version of maps works.
Google is modifying everything to stop custom roms. Probably linked.

Hi. I had the exact same problem for the two last month, until i find this post tonight, cleared data and cache… and it’s working fine now… My phone is Fairphone 4 with /e/OS 2.9 and then 3.0.2.

I have to install maps and use it for few weeks. but I’m having the same issue

I have a fairphone 4 with e.os 3.04

tried deleting data/cache, reinstalling, still same issue

any suggestion?

Same problem for me on a Fairphone 5, eOS v3.0.4. Deleting data helps for a while. The problem only occurs when being logged in to my account, not in anonymous mode. Maybe an older app version still works, but which?
