Google moves all Android development behind closed doors

Hi DevTeam! How will this affect Degoogled ROM’s like /e/OS?

https://www.osnews.com/story/142002/google-moves-all-android-development-behind-closed-doors/

You do know there is not alot of DevTeam movement here on the Forum?

But I think @Manoj our always helpful middle man, might pass that info.

osnews:

I honestly have no idea how this will impact such projects.

source at androidauthority.com has it better:

[…]. Platform developers, including those who build custom ROMs, will largely also see little change, since they typically base their work on specific tags or release branches, not the main AOSP branch. Similarly, companies that release forked AOSP products […]

External developers who enjoy reading or contributing to AOSP will likely be dismayed by this news, […]. contributing to Android OS development becomes more challenging, …

There happened some upstreaming into the main branch from foss forks (a dozen people that I can identify), not sure what future avenues will be available for them. Arguably upstreaming to AOSP helped all forks even when they didn’t share among themselves.

some stats

just a quick peek, I missed others ofc. Also those are the change-ids, by commit or lines changed it will be other numbers

Ieps, I know @Manoj is always very helpful
And @GaelDuval might be around.

Thank you.
In this page it says:

Platform developers, including those who build custom ROMs, will largely also see little change, since they typically base their work on specific tags or release branches, not the main AOSP branch. Similarly, companies that release forked AOSP products rarely use the main AOSP branch due to its inherent instability.

now that the system is quite mature, Open Source Developing have less interrest from the Big G point of view…

To give a precise answer would require specifics as to which project is being closed or what code will not be allowed to be forked. Most of our apps are not google dependent. Open source development will get through I am sure. Will pass on this info to the development team in case they are not already aware of it. Will share the response.

Update: There is no impact on /e/OS as per our development team.
