Google Play Services for AR requirement

Hi

I’m trying to use the app “Phobys”. It requires “Google Play Services for AR”, which I can find in Aurora store (and was ready to temporarily install :see_no_evil:). Unfortunately i can’t install it, the error goes “App not supported”.

Is there a chance this will ever work? Will it work in newer versions of /e/? I’m using 0.10 currently.

Any information is appreciated.

Best regards,
Raphaël

Regain your privacy! Adopt /e/ the unGoogled mobile OS and online servicesphone

if you want to use such apps, then you have to deinstall /e/OS and have to install the original OS or LOS with GAPPS

Ok, that’s a pretty straightforward answer, thanks!

It is a very short answer. I had wondered about your difficulty; here is the Exodus report on Phobys: εxodus

@kisman172 is there some reason you know that this will not work with MicroG? Sorry, not a MicroG issue after all - just lateral thinking and an optimistic outlook.

@raphi if you had been using the app previously, you might feel like reporting this to the authors at MindGuide.

Update, I have it installed, it seems one would just need an alternative source of Augmented reality rather than Google Play Services; so far I find there is an Apple version; following up…

Here we go GitHub - artoolkit/ARToolKit5 and an intro Six Top Tools to Build Augmented Reality Mobile Apps

I successfully installed Google AR from here Releases · google-ar/arcore-android-sdk · GitHub. Introduces Firebase Analytics as expected - Tracker Control showing no further damage (except ads from the app). Sadly Phobys does not work on my poor old phone, there is a list somewhere here of mainly modern phones required for AR. Good luck

Hi @aibd, thanks a ton for you investigations! Using the links you provided I also successfully installed Google Play Services for AR, and Phobys doesn’t say anymore that it is missing. Unfortunately I just end up with a black screen where the image from the camera should be in the app. Tried several versions of Google Play Services for AR.
So something is still not working. According to the list you linked, my phone should be capable of handling Google Play Services for AR.

I’ll contact the developer of the app, let’s see.

Wait, no, it seems my phone is just a year too old as well. :disappointed: I’m using a Samsung Galaxy A3 (2016) while the minium requirement seems to be a Galaxy A3 (2017).

And I hope my phone is not spying on me now, after this experiment with Google software. :grimacing:

Snap, I also have Samsung (A3 2016)!

Have you tried installing TrackerControl, I find that a good way of doing that sort of check on suspect packages.

Hehe, that’s a shame!

No, I’ve never used TrackerControl, thanks for the tip!
