Google Wallet to pay for mass transit tickets

Hey all, I think I already know the answer, but the mass transit system here pretty much forces the use of google wallet. Any tips to get that working?

Regain your privacy! Adopt /e/OS the unGoogled mobile OS and online servicesphone

I purposely don’t use any kind of wallet with my phone. I can do without in the USA (so far) and I’ll keep it that way as long as I can. So I don’t know, but I would just try installing it and see if it works. Though using Google Wallet is going to keep you logged into Google and avoiding that is the whole point of running /e/os.

I think a better option might be to pick up a used entry level phone on the cheap and reserve that for use with stock Android and Google Wallet. Though I’m not familiar with your transit system so I don’t know how it works, but that might mean you have to to carry two phones which could be troublesome.

Life is getting harder to do that with. If I want to take the train, new stops only have a google pay option.

I guess you can only write to your political representatives telling them that this monopoly (which one assumes is of no benefit to your government – unless it is) is denying you transportation.

I’m curious to which citys mass transit you’re refering to, London?

Ha ha, the link is a blatant advert for Google, and while containing copyright images from TFL is in no way required by TFL.

So you are only able to pay with Google wallet, do they also offer Apple wallet? If they don’t that would be interesting. Don’t get me wrong I can’t stand either. But to only allowing Google and not Apple is too weird. Do they also offer Apple pay (or whatever it’s called)?

I mean, I don’t have an iphone, but I suspect if you install their ios app it’s apple.

I guess it is the most hassle free integration, that’s why app developers use it without offering others…
