Today I’ve tried out the GoPro Quik app with 360° images and I had some issues that I wanted to share.
what works is connecting with the GoPro Fusion camera (sometimes slow). Also I can use the record button for starting and stopping recordings.
I can view 360° images with occasional issues (black screen)
Images preview doesn’t work at all.
360° Image downloads does work, but I had a lot of images to download (hundreds) and that didn’t work well. I had random interruptions after 5 - 30 image downloads. After Interruption I had to move images to a different folder and restart the download for the remaining images. I can’t recommend doing this with many images. Same goes for the GoPro Studio 1.4. I was not able to download the images with the Desktop App on Windows. Random and frequent app freeze etc.
Sometimes I can’t switch from recording images to recording video etc. Then I have to restart the app and the camera
With a older Samsung phone with stock Android 11, it works much better, especially the download of the images.
I’ve not really have an idea why I had the above issue. It can’t be hardware limitation because the FP5 has enough RAM, CPU and SD-space.
UPDATE: so it turned out that the other Samsung stock Android 11 phone has similar issues then the FP5. The app does export the images from the camera to the phone well (no errors), but when I want to save the images to the Gallery, there are crashes, just like with the FP5.
Also I’ve found out that GoPro Studio doesn’t run well on a virtual machine (KVM on Linux in my case) and also not on Windows 10.
It took a new installation of GoPro Studio 1.4 on Windows 11 (physical machine) and then the import and stitching of the images worked fine.
Newer versions of stock Android may work better, but it’s disappointing that the GoPro Quik app doesn’t work with /e/OS. I guess it’s the fault of bad programming / lack of testing on the GoPro side.
