Have you tried the new Parental Control in /e/OS?

:man::woman::girl::boy: Have you tried the new Parental Control in /e/OS?

Yup, that’s me. So, there I was, setting up parental controls on my son’s Samsung S9, feeling like I had this whole thing (con)figured out. Then BOOM the phone reboots, and suddenly it’s bricked with this lovely “Custom binary blocked by OEM lock” message. Like, really?
I’m trying to protect my kid, not send his poor 6-year-old phone to the big tech junkyard in the sky! Of course, this all happened right after the latest /e/OS update. Now I’ve handed over my trusty Murena 2, but you can bet I’m not touching those parental controls again
no way I’m risking another phone in this saga!

I saw the issue come up in the community, and it didn’t seem like a big deal for others, but for me? We’ve got a phone down :headstone:RIP, dear S9. Just 6 years old, had so much life left. Gone too soon!

And look, my life? It’s full, folks. No time to go all dive into TWRP. I’m just trying to keep things simple and working. I don’t have the time. I just want the basics to function without me having to get my hands in adb.

But hey, before you think I’m too salty… sending love to the /e/OS team. You’re doing amazing work with this project, and I’m a big fan. Just sharing my tired self here, hoping you hear me out. Keep doing what you’re doing :heart_hands:
I know this is all part of the journey!

Hello Sebu !

Sorry for the disagrement, it is, indeed, a known issue that has not be solved yet. I think, regarding the number of people complainig, that /e/ should communicate and warn about that issue. It is a basic feature and, in addition, provided by /e/ that can brick your phone. It’s too easy to use your phone normally and have it bricked somehow…
However, even if having your phone OEM locked is a pain, it can be solved kinda easily. So believe in your phone, his time hasn’t come yet !! You can find the required steps here on the community. I know you don’t have a lot of time, but you can either keep it and revive it later or give it to an it shop. The dude will bring it back under stock android and from here, it’s exactly as you did to boot it with /e/. Of course, your data is unfortunately lost. An advice for you so that you can avoid having problem with brand new features. Check the community two weeks after the release to see if people are having issues, so that you can be sure you’re phone is not gonna go to the great dump in the sky.
Thanks for your feedback !!
