First things first. Mobile network is GiffGaff (runs off the back of O2, now part of the Virgin Group I believe). A few weeks back I posted about not receiving calls. In Network and Internet | SIMs | giffgaff there are two 4G settings, 4G calling and Preferred network type. If 4G calling is switched to 4G (recommended) and Preferred network type is set to 4G or if 4g calling is turned off and 4G set to preferred network type I don’t get any calls - callers report my phone is engaged all the time. So I am now having to go back to 3G which means I can’t use 4G for data - what is happening? I will also post on giffgaff forum. Thanks for reading.
Device is a Fairphone 3+ purchased from e.foundation running /e/OS 2.4
not rooted. Running Android 13.
side issue: sync symbol is constantly running/showing in left side of status panel even though sync is off!
Is the mobile Internet switched on or off? And does it work independently of other call settings?
It may have nothing to do with it … but have you checked and made sure that the APN settings are set according to your provider’s suggestions?
My issue since I bought this phone is people cannot hear me. That is especially true when using the speakerphone. I was told by support to turn off wifi calling and VoLTE. See attachment. I
need this phone for business and I want it so bad to work. I installed the checkup program and the secondary microphone is VERY noisy/loud. Unlike you I do receive calls.
I know this is an issue concerning samsung and maybe not fairphone, but some phones running open source rom doesn’t have 4g calling and have to use 3g, as the program is proprietary. This is a really significant problem as in some countries, such as USA, where 3g network (or 2g i don’t remember) has been removed.
But once again, i know it exists for samsung but i’m really unsure about fairphone.
that’s good.
although my question was directed at @swarfendor437 - even though I am rather sceptical that the problem is actually related to the APN settings.
Which phone? see @piero ‘s post/link above on how to give specific information about phone model and eOS version
My eldest has a Samsung S21 (also on giffgaff) that is using 5g. Always gets engaged tone whether I am on 4g or 3g. Eldest has had Samsung for 3 years now and not had problem calling me until recently. Is this a market push to get everyone to buy new phones?
I am seriously considering moving to Smarty over giffgaff!
