Good Morning, Afternoon or Evening Ladies and Gentlemen,
First of all I would like to commend this Foundation, and Ronald for building an great platform for our android devices. Being a fan of Graphene, this is right up my alley. My mother, who now is in her 70s replaced her dated Tab 4 8.0 (Millet) to the latest iPad and she literally was going to throw the Tab away…I’m not a tablet user, but i reminds me of seeing my mother read books so I decided to replace the battery with a OEM, buy a new cover, and now it’s with me in my work backpack.
e/OS is the way to go, it’s light, fast and feels “new”. Now there is one thing I would like to be able to do, or perhaps request. I understand the Tab 4 thread is closed, but if I would like to de-bloat the ROM with many apps which I just won’t use, and many of the themes as well. I’d be happy if we have the option to “Uninstall” or atleast “Disable” for things like Mail, Message, PDF, Notes, Tasks, the launcher, and even the default App Lounge is of no use to me.
True, I forgot about this method, well, it worked.
One other question Piero since I have you here. Is there a way I can Pull and Push the build.prop file? There are some tweaks I would like to test out.
If the unofficial /e/OS build you are using includes all /e/OS options, you could enable Rooted debugging in the Developer options and then start a rooted ADB session with adb root to try to access system files.
if TWRP (THE advanced recovery manager tool) is installed on your device, you can use it to mount /system and copy the file you are interrested by to an accessible location on the phone, then on your PC
you will need a text editor for editing build.prop
The command line in the ADB shell can be unruly at times so I’m feeling you on that one. I use a Windows program to handle this kind of thing; ADB AppControl The program works really well and without rooting the phone it can disable or uninstall a good number of apps that require privileges.
However there can be more stubborn apps that require elevated privileges. In that case you would need to enable usb root debugging in developer options and open a command prompt to issue the “adb root” command before starting the program.
The /e/os ROM is pretty debloated as it is. The stock apps you many not need don’t take up much space or consume much resources. So I would not go to great lengths to remove stuff. I would first “hide” an app if you are running a launcher that supports it (Bliss does not). If that’s not possible I would disable the app. I would avoid uninstalling without a specific reason, uninstalling is more likely to break stuff.
I just downloaded Magisk 29.0 from their Github. I see that there are two options. Magisk Install, and App Install. I guess I would need to install both… Correct? Now when I choose Install for Magisk it displays ‘Method’ and a radio button for “Select and Patch a File”. What do I choose here?
Oh, in the installer, gotcha! Thank You… Thanks again Piero, I patched it and flashed it via TWRP…Checked Root Status and Rooted. As we say “Gracias Hermano.” Have a wonderful weekend.
Also as you like “fiddle around with things”, i think TWRP is an option for you instead of the poor recovery-e
your device is not encripted by default, unlike more recent device or android version where TWRP cannot handle /data (why it is now abandonned)
