High battery drainage / usage during night / flight mode?

Hi.

I’ve discovered something strange and I’m wondering if this is normal.

My /e/OS phone (Murena Fairphone 4) drains a significant amount of battery during the night, even if flight mode is turned on with WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, location services off. The phone isn’t doing anything either (as far as I’m aware).

The battery then drains from e.g. 77% to 66% in roughly 7 hours.

Is this amount of battery drainage normal?

If not, does anybody know what might be causing it?

Is your device rooted? Then you can try Better Battery Stats (BBS in F-Droid) to see whether your device goes into deep sleep mode and if not, what the cause is.

Unfortunately not! I’ve thought about rooting my phone but with /e/OS recommending not doing it and me not really knowing much about programming I decided against it.

Does Settings > Battery > Battery usage give an idea of what might be the problem … note how you should be able to see the usage tied to specific apps.

Or does this battery usage look somehow “unlikely or unreliable”? Edit If this seems the case follow the advice of @obacht to use CacheCleaner in the next post.

Not sure if related to your problem or if it helps… but my default advice is: clean cache of app that causes the drain - and if you cannot identify the app: clean cache of all (incl. system-) apps and see if that changes anything…
The app I found helpful for that task: cache cleaner

I’ve looked at the Settings > Battery > Battery usage, but it doesn’t say anything strange. It says that the screen is the highest user, which … well, doesn’t seem right. No other apps stand out, they’re all at a very low percentage.

Thank you for the tip! I tried cleaning the cache of all apps, including system apps, but to no avail. Tonight my battery drained from 65% to 52%.

All in all this isn’t the biggest issue in the world, but …

sure it´s not … yet still, 13% for “nothing” is quite a lot…

Have you tested switching the device OFF (= shut down) over night?
To check battery drain in that case (should be zero) … just to be sure the hardware/battery isn´t broken…

Thank you for the help and for the tip. I tried sleeping with the phone completely off and it drained 0%-age units.

Yikes, good to know, thanks. I say yikes because that was 5 months ago, looks like I might have to live with this issue for some while longer… Fingers crossed!
