how can I import Contacts on my phone? I’ve got a Contacts.vcf from my previous Android phone.
What I tried so far:
Open Phone app, select Contacts at bottom. Open burger menu at top (3 dots). Options are “Call history”, “Helplines”, “Settings”. I.e. the expected “import contacts” is missing.
Open the .vcf file directly. It offers me “Open with Contacts”, “Just once”, “Always”. I selected “Just once”. A grey popup appears “Save imported contacts to: DEVICE”. I tapped on “DEVICE’. Screen flickers once, nothing else happens.
This seems to me will attempt to store on SIM card, but this method as I understand it, is no longer (fully) supported. (Put another way contacts on Device seem to crop up as a problem of understanding rather often on the forum)
I think rather than Phone app, better to look for Import .vcf on Contacts app.
So, I tried that one. It offers “import” and “export”.
I created two contacts manally and exported them to a file. Then I deleted the contacts and tried to import the file I just exported. Doesn’t work, they don’t appear. Instead the app crashes.
On adb logcat I see a SIGSEGV along with a register dump, backtrace, etc.
Where to report that, so it can get fixed?
Be sure to note the paragraph about login difficulties … seems very few new users will be successful without “assistance from within” … so if unsuccessful please just come back to the open forum here and simply ask for Admin support (without disclosing personal details, ofc).
There have been reported issues (not actually this context recently) with .vcf version.
Maybe it would help throw light on the version of your previously held contacts if you generate a small .vcf on another device and attempt to import that with minimal intermediate steps.
It’s probably not restricted to the Contacts app.
Earlier I tried to pair a new device on wireless debugging and the behaviour looks similar. I didn’t compare strack traces yet.
About registering on gitlab… I opened a helpdesk ticket. Hope that works too.
