How to install OkCupid app?

Hello everyone !

I’ve just bought a Murena Pixel 7. I’m so happy to definitively leave Google !! :star_struck: Thank you so much Murena !

Just a difficulty now : when I try to install the app OkCupid (so important, isn’t it ! :innocent:) that indicates WebView system is missing. I tried with Aurora store : same thing.

I’m not good on technology and I’m french so I don’t understand everything here… so thank you in advance for your teaching skills and patience (and if some french people can answer me, it would be perfect).

Thanks a lot for your answer and your help.

Hi @Luce welcome to the /e/ forum.

Okcupid was mentioned here System Webview missing in murena /e/is? without resolution. Speculation it may be quite highly Google dependent. Problem apps often have a low Exodus score as this

Ok, thanks. So… nothing to do? I can use it on the computer, but I’d rather have it on my phone. I was hoping to be able to use it without its bad features.

Ahhh … so you can use it on the default browser. Simply go to https://www.okcupid.com/login … assuming login will work now go to Browser > Settings > Add to home sceen. Now follow prompts to “add shortcut” … then you should have

… the safer alternative to an app.

Ooooh super !! :star_struck: :star_struck: :star_struck: thank you very much !!!
Not exactly the same than the app, but a very good solution. It’s perfect for my use, thanks a lot !

The only problem is that I need to let the cookies and research history, if not I have to connect at each time… is it exact ? Do you know if there is a solution to avoid cookies and to delete research history, without being disconnected of this site ? maybe by a list of websites allowed to let cookies and being in the history ? I didn’t find in the settings but maybe you know something like this to do.

I dont know the answer.

… but is this similar to the behaviour on your PC ?

I would have guessed that only the most transient data would stay on the browser but more critical data would all be stored against your account remotely.

I suppose an App would be different in that it kept a local copy of most of your account (??)

I don’t know at all how it works.
But indeed it’s the same on my computer with Firefox browser : if I delete all cookies and historic, I have to log in at each time.
When we open the app, we access directly to our account. It’s simple.
If I let the cookies and historic on the murena browser, my OkCupid account will open directly too. But usually I prefer delete them. But now, I don’t know, maybe I will let them just for OkCupid so that I can use it.

Luce you could bookmark the app in an alternate browser like Brave or Fixefox, that may be a good workaround.
In cretin newspaper websites I can’t us the default eOS browser app for comments. So I just open website in Brave and they work. Brave actually has pretty good privacy too.

Agreed, but if you have a degree of trust for the organisation cookies are preferable to probably much wider sharing from an app.

Not a subject I investigated but I wonder if you can organise to keep okcupid cookies only (but delete or refuse third party cookies inserted by okcupid) if they may be multiple, idk.

Good idea ! I can use another browser just for opening this app with others privacy settings.

Yes I can try that way too. But I didn’t find yet.

Thank you very much for your replies! :green_heart:
