How to make a shortcut to a document?

I have a PDF saved on my phone. I would like to make a shortcut to it on my desktop/home screen. I cannot figure out how to do this, nor can I find any information about this in the wiki. Is this even possible?

The Files app has this ability.

Navigate to the folder containing the .pdf > Select the .pdf > 3 dot menu top right > Add launcher shortcut.

I don’t have that option in the Files app. I have “Open With, Sort by, Select all, Copy to, Move to, and Get Info”.

Try the fossify file manager, it has this option and it’s a nice app anyways.

I remember that the behaviour of com.android.documentsui (Files) changed for Android 11.

Now I checked, I do not see the shortcut in R, Is it also not seen in S?

Yes, it’s not available in S.
