How to sync calendar with Murena Cloud?

Hi,

The last thing I need to get running is the calendar, and get it synced to Murena cloud desktop. There is a web page with instructions, How to sync new Murena Workspace calendars but the dialogs in there only vagely resemble those that I see.

I use Murena (3.5) in German, but the differences are much larger than just the languages. Contents seem to be vastly different. Could it be that these instructions are not up-to-date for version 3.5?

How can I get those calendars to sync?

It looks more like this now [HOWTO] Sync your contacts, calendar events, email, notes and tasks to /e/ - #40 by aibd.

Actually, no. When I open Settings | Account I get a page that reads

[username at Nextcloud which I also have, but for different purpose: not for syncing]

No mention of CardDav, CalDav, WebCal etc. pp. anywhere…

Maybe I should add that syncing everything else to Murena cloud works fine. Media, notes, contacts, mail (only @murena.iomurena.io, which is fine) (so far haven’t tried tasks). In fact, it went so well that after a day of taking photos, producing 9 GB of images, syncing repeatedly clogged my cloud so I had to disable media syncing. So far only calendar seems to be a problem?

So you notice that it is 4 levels in after the

Accouts for owner
yourself@murena.io
Murena.io

This is what is expressed as

“(top is) Murena A/C”

quite well hidden.

Well, it doesn’t even read “yourself@murena.io” / murena.io, it reads “username / Murena.io” (not in the form of a mail address with a @ inside…). And when I tap that, a screen opens with the large Murena symbol, underneath my username (also no @…)

Then

“account synchronisation / syncing for 6 of 8 elements activated” and “My account / Murena.io account overview” / remove account”.

I can only tap on “accout synchronisation” which opens a dialog with sliders for address books, app settins, tasks etc”. Tapping on account overview opens another page with a large round logo with my initials, my full name and my Murena mail address. Then an indicator telling me the percentage I have filled my cloud, “my contract: 1 GB free subscription”, “adapt” and “Alias” and “Settings / additional settings”. the latter opens a page the only shows my username - and nothing else….

So you already got to

I do not understand?

OK so far, this is one of the described steps.

This sounds like you are describing a page the top quarter of which is accent colour solid blue with your username aka “ID”

Now you tap on that ID blue section to move on.

Oh my goodness. Yes, that opens something up that matches. But much to my suprise, the first highlighted section, contacts, says “(yet)no address books found”. But syncing contacts DOES work…

In the meantime I added some tasks. Tasks also do NOT sync, just like the calendar.

Ah, swiping down releaved two (?) accounts, “Contacts” and “Webmail” (?). Webmail?

Tasks is the same but different, same in that Tasks is a Calendar “adjusted”

You could keep reading to my post at the bottom of that thread, as all find this counter intuitive

Webmail is a different entity and refers to the email client within murena.io – it maintains its own address book or “Contacts” by default.

There is just one entry: Persönlich (Personal), and that claims to be last synced today, just recently. But no tasks have traversed, not the numerous tasks from the phone to the cloud nor the one test task in the cloud to the phone. But one calendar entry made its way from the cloud to the phone, but not the test entry in the other direction. :frowning:

Also I have new accounts ?! One names “Contacts [username] oQ” and one “Webmail [username] jQ” ?! Now that are strage names, looks like some (weird) automatic function… And in both of those new accounts, there is another “my account/account overview” with that circle with initials, and clicking on settings yields (after the second click) “Contacts” and “Webmail”. Boy, that IS complicated…

Hm, in tasks there is, although slightly hidden, another “section” with my username, that does also contain the test task from the cloud.

So there is a task list that is solely local and does not sync at all? If that is the case, what is the other section that bears my user name? Is it just a view of the cloud tasks? What happens to it when I have no connection to the internet? I need things to be accessible when offline. These may sync when online, but a purely online list is of little use…

Can I move tasks from the “purely local task list” to the one that syncs?

If it helps manage expectations this image is a simple demo.

  • Local is local, no sync
    • no account associated
  • Murena list was generated on the cloud
    • association to murena redacted
  • Personal was created on the phone
    • association to murena redacted

In all of this please don’t forget to explore the top right 3 dot menu if available.

I found a way to move tasks from the non-syncing to the syncing list, but again, it’s an inconsistency that looks like a bug:

There are two ways to edit a task:

a) Tap on it

b) Move it out of the screen to the left

Method a) shows a much fancier looking GUI than b), BUT: Only in the not-so-fancy GUI of b) there is a drop-down menu to select in which list the task shall be, so moving is easy.

But only in method a) and beware, a swipe to the right (as opposed to the left) will delete (!) the task…

Again, please bear with me, a calendar question:

After I understood that the same (“local is definitively local, i.e. no syncing”) applies to calendar as well, and I understood I have to import into the syncing one, to have in phone and cloud alike, I did import my calendar entries that I backed up with Simple Calendar on my FP2.

This went well and fast, but: Is it true that stock calendar of Murena does not know what categories are?

Yes, I mostly use these to distinguish by color, but every once in a while grouping of entries becomes handy, too. And stock calendar really can do different colors for events, but only with a palette of colors close to each other, so picking the wrong, but similar one gives an uneven look and feel.

Do I have to go for (Fossify) Calendar to get categories?

Thanks
