How to unblock bootloader in Canadian Moto G Power (2021)

I have a Moto G Power (2021) XT2117-4 which is on the list of supported devices - originally purchased with a dataplan from a Canadian carrier (Freedom) but now out of contract. It is SIM unlocked, but all my efforts to unlock the bootloader have met with defeat. I tried Mororola but, while their US page allows a submission request to unlock, the Canadian page is blank. Motorola support was uncooperative.

I would love to install /e/OS on it, but is there any way to do it here in Canada? As an alternative, I can get a Pixel 9 from a carrier (Bell) but I imagine they won’t allow me to unlock the bootloader either. Suggestions?

I always use the US page for unlock and I am in Canada with Canadian phones. When you use the US page did you go through with the unlock?

As for Bell, they probably won’t allow the unlock from their system until contract is up but I imagine google will let you unlock the boot loader, after all the 9 is on the list of devices.

I entered the string and the response was something like ‘This model doesn’t qualify’. I s you model the same as mine: XT2117-4?

No my models (I have two) are year 2021 but are different model and numbers. Have you enabled developer options and OEM unlocking?

I remembered this from somewhere, a brief search led to this How To Unlock Bootloader On Any Motorola Moto Phones. Untested by me, but I do not see how the initial command could cause a problem, so may be worth exploring.

Or search further for the error message.

I just chatted with the Motorola customer services agent. It said that phones older than 3 years no longer qualify. My model is 4 years old.

I will try to get my unlock code tonight for on of my 2021 phones, will see if Moto is being accurate. I message back here.
