How to Update my Samsung SM-T720?

Hello all,

we have been enjoying our Samsung tablet with e/OS for some time now. There have been no updates for a few months now.

How exactly does that work with e/OS? Are certain devices EOL at some point, or do you have to generate the system for each type separately?

Thanks
Best regards

Ok, thank you. I understand. Not ready yet.

If you have android 12 based samsung firmware
and
/e/OS “e-x.xx-s” already installed on it,
you can jump to step (8) or (9)
BUT DON’T FACTORY-RESET OR WIPE OR FORMAT ANYTHING

ok and how can I find out what firmware is on it or if it is compatible? Attached an Screenshot.

Latest R version for android 11 based firmware was e-1.8.1-r

If you want to run S version, you need to upgrade your Samsung Firmware to an android 12 based one.
Edit: android 12 based stock firmware has not been released for this device, you can have a go with simply upgrading /e/ to e-1.12.3-s

Hi @piero – I tried to search for it but did not find it: can you also let us know how to find the BIT value of on an already installed /e/?

And: Will we lose our data when doing the firmware-upgrade → /e/-upgrade?
Edit: and is the encryption of the tablet an issue?

Thanks a lot for your help!

It is important only if you want to downgrade firmware,
you will found it in -->settings ->>about the phone -->android version -->baseband version

not if you choose a one file firmware instead of a four files firmware, but yes when you unlock the bootloader

yes when you unlock the bootloader
but not in the case you don’t need to upgrade firmware
just DON’T FACTORY-RESET OR WIPE OR FORMAT ANYTHING

I don’t know

Oh right, sorry, I did not mention it… I have the SM-P610. The latest Android-12-based firmware I found has the BINARY value 2.

Thanks a lot! Not very obvious that the version number can be tapped for another menu  … however, I do not have “baseband version”, presumably b/c the tablet is WiFi-only?

Do you by any chance also know how to find out the PAP (/AP) and CSC Values (or does CSC not matter for WiFi-only? and/or does PAD also not matter for upgrading from 11 to 12? )

Thanks a lot for your help again! :sunglasses: :+1:

That’s it !

.

Anyway, i have made a little search in some build.prop files, but not found informations about stock Samsung firmware version
Probably i don’t look at the right place…

In theory not if you flash only the necessary /partitions (not the all stock firmware files) but i cannot help for that.

/e/team plan to include needed vendor firmware parts in their builds in the future (see weekly information thread)

sounds good, thanks for the info! :+1:

as far as I read, if i flash HOME_CSC instead of CSC then it should keep my apps and data also for 4-part-firmware. I’ll see, I have everything backed up

Have someone an idea how to build a Rom with e-1.14-q and can give me some support?
Up to now I’m not able to understand how to get the proprietary blobs extracted somehow.
There is no were any file named extract-files.sh.
thanks a lot

Hi @Ich87 welcome to the /e/ forum.

This is the sort of question we see in the UnOfficial Builds category.

Here is the support page for Building /e/ https://doc.e.foundation/support-topics/build-e.html.

You might consider opening another thread in UnOfficial Builds or perhaps Build /e/OS category and include your device codename, mentioned below (and in the link above).

Edit Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e gts4lvwifi SM-T720

The old school way is mentioned https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/gts4lvwifi/build#extract-proprietary-blobs

The binary blobs for this device can be found in this repo
https://github.com/TheMuppets/proprietary_vendor_samsung_gts4lvwifi

The LineageOS device tree is here
https://github.com/LineageOS/android_device_samsung_gts4lvwifi

There is a ‘lineage-20.0’ branch in both repos (it’s the only branch in the binary blobs repo) so easiest to build /e/OS t branch

i will try to build thatch ROM.
If i succeed i will upload it on that thread Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e gts4lvwifi SM-T720, too

thanks for your support
