there is no way to prevent auto-reboot, so … prepare your fingers…

Thank you for the response.

As far as using ADB, I was just following the instructions on the website for linux users, and those instructions did work correctly on my Samsung Galaxy S2 tablet without any problem.

This other tablet is a Samsung SM-T580 tablet. I followed the same procedure, but on this tablet after the step of loading TWRP, the tablet began bootlooping until I pulled the back cover off and unplugged the battery.

So device is “gtaxlwifi”

extract the recovery.img that is included into the .ZIP

heimdall flash --RECOVERY recovery.img --no-reboot

then boot into recovery,
factory-reset,
and

adb sideload e-3.3-t-20251215-UNOFFICIAL-gtaxlwifi.zip

Again, thank you so much for all of your contributions to the eOS community and a special thanks for supporting the linux community!!!

I gave you the wrong informaiton, my tablet is an SM-P580 not a SM-T580. My mistake!!

I downloaded the correct file from your list here…

specifically this file –> Download e-3.3-t-20251215-UNOFFICIAL-gtanotexlwifi.zip (eOSBuildsRonnz98)

I extracted the “recovery.img” file and followed your instructions for using Heimdall, and rebooted into the “e recovery mode” successfully.

I formatted all of the partitions and enabled adb.

On my computer, when I types “adb devices” my tablet shows up as some long string of digits, and shows something like “52033… recovery”

Typing this command gives me an error–>

adb sideload e-3.3-t-20251215-UNOFFICIAL-gtanotexlwifi.zip

adb: sideload connection failed: closed
adb: trying pre-KitKat sideload method…
adb: pre-KitKat sideload connection failed: closed

I tried several times to reboot into “e Recovery” mode and I get the same adb error message each time.

Next, I tried loading the “e-3.3-t-20251215-UNOFFICIAL-gtanotexlwifi.zip” file onto a microsd card and used the “e Recovery”, “Apply Update”, “Choose from disk”, “e-3.3-t-20251215-UNOFFICIAL-gtanotexlwifi.zip”.

I get this error message…

ERROR: recovery: signature length doesn’t match EOCD marker

ERROR: recovery: Signature verification failed

ERROR: recovery: error: 21

I selected from the menu to “Install anyway”, then the screen goes blank for a moment, and then displays more error messages…

ERROR: cutils: Failed to chown(/storage/0000-0000, 0, 0): Operation not permitted

ERROR: recovery: public:179_33 failed to create mount points: Operation not permitted

ERROR: ProcessKiller: Process /system/bin/recovery (2398) has open file /storage/0000-0000/e-3.3-t-20251215-UNOFFICIAL-gtanotexlwifi.zip

Rebooting starts a boot loop until I reenter “e Recovery” mode using the power+volume up+home buttons.

Any thoughts?

ALSO, one last note, the list you shared shows that the SM-P580 is a “gtanotexlwifikx” but I downloaded the file ending in “gtanotexlwifi”, with no “kx” in the file name. Would that make a difference?

(I have no access to my computer these days, only mobile, so less screens, less openned windows, less tabs, less bookmarks)

What is the output for

adb shell getprop ro.product.device
adb shell getprop ro.bootloader

Also, did you reflashed a recovery.img related to your device codename ?
For sure you already have enabled “USB debugging” in developper option, so re-enable ADB in recovery may be contra-productive

See also this post in case, it talk about signature mismatch and also provide TWRP…

Happy New Year!!

Super thanks for all of your help and suggestions.

Command responses:

adb shell getprop ro.product.device
gtanotexlwifikx
adb shell getprop ro.bootloader
P580UEU1CRK2

I tried using ADB both with and without enabling it in the eRecovery on the tablet, with the same error messages.

adb: sideload connection failed: closed
adb: trying pre-KitKat sideload method…
adb: pre-KitKat sideload connection failed: closed

Some additional questions, if you have the time…

  1. Can I use the eRecovery version 3.3 (20251215) to install a different version of android that is NOT the same version of eOS 3.3? In other words, I downloaded the Lineage builds from the link you provided, should the eOS eRecovery version 3.3 allow me to install a Lineage build, or is that a bad idea to install mismatch versions and build types?
  2. Do you think perhaps that the TWRP 3.7 recovery provided in your link above might work better than the eOS 3.3 eRecovery? Am I right to presume that I could replace the “recovery.img” in your process instructions above with a “twrp-3.7….img”? Thus replacing the eRecovery 3.3 with a TWRP recovery? I noticed also that the link you provided had both the TWRP img version and an Odin tar version for each build. Is either way preferred of the other?
  3. Do you think that I might need a “signing migration build” from the link you provided? Is that what you wanted me to read about in that link?

BTW, that tablet will no longer boot into stock android, so I cannot check to see what settings are still in place in the Developer options. It goes into a boot loop, but eRecovery mode and bootloader mode still work fine, which allowed me to install the “recovery.img” which I am now using.

AWESOME!! I got it working!!

I decided to try your recovery.img install method but used the TWRP version provided in the link from the lineage forum.

I followed your new instruction for Samsung devices, and got TWRP recovery installed in place of the eRecovery and followed your new instructions to intall using the adb method using this command below…’

“adb sideload e-3.3-t-20251215-UNOFFICIAL-gtanotexlwifi.zip”

eOS started up and loaded just fine, YAY!!! Happy NEW YEAR!!

I could not have done this without your kind help and patience!!!

One odd note…after the adb install of the eOS zip package, I selected to reboot per your new instructions, and the TWRP screen said that “no operating system was installed”, even though I had just installed it completely to 100%. Both the computer adb command line and the tablet screen showed that the zip package was 100%.

That made me super nervous when it said there was no operating system and that I had done something wrong, but rebooted anyway. eOS came up just fine, with no problems!!

Beautiful!!

Thank you so much!
