I broke the maps app on accident

Hi there!

I installed an update for the maps/magic earth app a few days ago and since then it hung up quite often. So I decided to downgrade which is not possible out of the box. I then used a app manager app (without root) and there was an option to uninstall that update and revert back to the “factory version”.

But after doing that, the original version didn’t have access to internet (at least telling that) and the option for mobile data was not accessible. I then updated again and though the option was on it still has not internet available. I removed that update again and now the original version crashes with giving a .gz error log.

TL;DR
Is there a way to reinstall that app?

Since there is no OS update available atm I can not go that way, either. At least I don’t know how to.

Hi!

Did you try to:

  • go to Settings/Apps
  • select Maps
  • Force Stop, Clear Cache, Clear Data

Yes. Did that several times.
Also removed permissions (to reset them) and restarted the device.

I am thinking of “reinstalling” / “upgrading” the OS with the same version

I think that is what I would do. Don’t know what your device is, but if it is a “sideload updatable” device just sideload the existing /e/ version.

Yeah. Already did that and it did not solve the problem. Still crashing. =(
